Here’s a selection of pictures taken using the 8-megapixel full-focus camera on the Nokia E6. The photographs were taken as part of an internal Nokia competition during the testing period of the new device. Despite prototype hardware and software, we’re pretty impressed with the results. You can click on each image for a larger version, and then again for the full resolution.

Agreed. Nokia knows what they are doing with their camera dev teams.
I still prefer the N8's ability for Macro mode, though.

fixed focus allows really quick photos, without 'lag' while waiting for the lens to focus.

I also still prefer the auto-focus type though

LOL

In the pic of that old colonial type building with the german flag, the building has the following words inscribed at the top of the columns : 'Dem Deutchen Volke' :)

In my mind this transltes to : Dem German people! :)

Very good phone.
Call quality is excellent, Penta-band capability, 12mpx camera, integrated social networking (Facebook Twitter, any most others).
Browsing with the built in browser is a pain. Luckily Opera 11 works a charm.
The N8 will receive an update roughly mid-year which will include a vastly improved browser..
USB on the go (I connect my mouse and keyboard up to it to screw around etc).
HDMI out with Dolby Surround (stand to be corrected) (nice if you only have a stereo set..)

Anyway, it's a very good phone.
I'm loving mine.
:)

Bb 9700 (or higher), iPhone 3GS/4, Samsung Galaxy S. All decent cams, and streets ahead of Nokia at everything except taking pics.

Tapatalk for iPhone/Android is excellent for foruming and uploading pics to them.

Maybe this can give you an idea of picture quality on the iPhone 3GS (iPhone 4 camera is better and has a flash). All done on the phone with a panorama app.

I've uploaded quite a few pics to the "What's for supper" thread using Tapatalk which you can find here - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/search.php?searchid=7435378, http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/152143-What-s-for-supper?p=6003196#post6003196

iPhone 4 suffers from over-saturation.
Not such a good camera on it tbh (SEs have better cameras).

The camera on the N8 is a 28mm wide angle with an F-stop of 2.8
When used with the Panorama app, its brilliant.

I agree on the Tapatalk app - not released on the N8 yet.

Wrt streets ahead... sorry but what's required is a bit more objectivity.
How are they streets ahead?

Fruit phones are inferior to real phones - too locked down and too basic. Sure, they "just work" and have "free narrowband" but some people expect more than something that merely just works. I think these new full focus cameras are going to be very good for Nokia.

N8 - digital zoomed & then cropped

The point is the other cams are good enough for most people. If you don't have a separate camera and the camera is as important as the phone then sure, go for Nokia N8.

However overall experience and ability of real smart phones with real mobile OSes is what makes iPhone/Android/BB (in that order, although I'm sure Android will take the cake some time soon) better than Nokia. When Nokia comes out with Windows Mobile, then maybe we can talk.

:(
You don't want to talk to me?

The reasons you listed are really subjective..
I agree that, in terms of usability, the iPhones trumps all.
But, because the thread title pointed to a phones camera capability (in this case the fixed focus ones), those other phones you listed would fall by the wayside quite quickly..

Anyway, was kinda looking forward to some verbal jousting.
:D

That depends... My post(s) was in line with the hijack... ;)

"browsing, email, Facebook" - best experience for those tasks is not on a Nokia, and is on iPhone/Android/Nokia. I'm happy to concede that taking pics will be best on a Nokia though, but the hijack was not "I only want to take pics". ;)

Ah, I see you're talking about my HTC Desire HD again. :D

HTCs are excellent phones yes, and soon as I can get a Wildfire S as my second phone I'll start taking pics with it.
