Nokia launches E75 in SA

Nice.
Nokia online are offering it for £379.00. That would make it around R9-R10k locally I would guess.

It may not have the "wow!" factor but it's a solid product that does what business users want exceptionally well. For me, as an E90 owner, this is an atractive device with its 3.5mm audio jack and Nokia Music Store functionality ... what my E90 lacks. It also has built-in proper Exchange support that must be done through additional (expensive) software like RoadSync on the E90 (free Mail for Exchange has never worked well for me).

years ago tried straying away from nokia, and that was my last foray. so my choice of phone is between nokia a and nokia b. so any new nokia is always welcome...:D

Can this be seen as the direct rival to the Blackberry ? How does the email cost work and is it as fast as the BB ? Also canu add your google/Yahoo etc etc mail like in BIS ?

It's cheap compared to your storms and X1's...... i bet Sp's are going to sell them for much higher than 6k-you ust wait and see.

You will have to take out an additional data bundle that will cost you about R150 extra per month (depends on size of data bundle). This data will however be full HSUPA and not restricted as with BIS. The strength of the E75 is email and you will for sure be able to do gmail etc. I can do it on my old E90.

Yes, Nokia Messaging does supports Gmail, Yahoo!, Windows Live, etc.
Currently using it and its super fast, sometimes I get emails before they even appear on my GMail inbox!

Could have looked better if it shared the same look and finish as the E71 and E66...

I love my E71. Best phone I've ever owned. I wonder how this compares...

@spartacis - not sure why people always ask if phones can do gmail etc. surely most phones have supported pop & secure ports for a couple of years now? I've certainly been able to this for the last 6 years and I can also set polling intervals to check at least every 5 minutes.

The problem with the Blackberry is that they currently have no HSPA (downlink and uplink) support.

The problem with the E90 is that whilst it has HSPA (downlink so HSDPA) at the nice 1.8mbps is that people want to "tether" that to a PC and enjoy the faster speeds.

Added to this drama is that the Blackberry (with all respect to it since I got the MTN issued 8900) is that it is use-less as a messaging device (no emails) if you do NOT take out a BIS or BES/BIS plan and MMS'es don't work sans either one of the 2 plans.

Then also the only 3G capable Berries are the Storm (95XX) & the Bold (90XX) series and thats it , only 3G , no HSPA at all.

They rely on the wonderful thing called the Blackberry infrastructure to compress the data and deliver it to the phone (which is a blessing in most cases) and then also not depending on your love for speed.

Qwerty keyboards on most mobile handhelds make for easy emailing and myself being a firm Nokia owner (E90 & may others) from the 1st ones that MTN issued with the keys making imprints on the inner screen) but the Blackberry offering of BIS & BES/BIS are amongst the easiest to setup and troubleshoot from a systems side and you don't run out of data.

The crap is when the networks experience problems and there are outages but these are few and far between on the Blackberry side of things.

FWIW they got a good market and a difficult product to beat , from the basic 8100 Pearl to the more wider 8310 Curve to the Bold smaller brother Curve 8900 to the Bold 9000 to the Storm 9500 (I think touchscreen on a Berry is a waste of time - the accelerometer on that Storm is a tad bit too sensitive and all the firmware I've tried on it - pre-release as well does'nt make it any better when it swops orientation)

The only thing is there is no decent call recording app for a Berry like there is for Symbian (Ultimate Voice Recorder)

COLOURS

I must say the coloration in stark black and screaming burgundy is extremely unimaginative.
