HEY GUYS/GIRLS...

want to get a n85 at the end of the month...dec 28 on mtn...just want to know if i need to pre order it or will they be readily availible?

Thanks...

i had to wait a week.. phone your mtn store and ask

yup 8gb
just btw, new firmware is quite naarce. running smooth still, hasn't hung on me,yet:P

hey peeps...

sorry to bump a 2 week old thread but just wondering about the build quality of the n85 you received?

reading a lot of post that state that the slider is very wobbly and that the bottom navigation button panel literally peels off the phone!! seen it posted above in this tread as well...

anyway, just wondering about your experiences...especially with the navigation panel pealing off...i am getting mine in 5 days and can be really ocd about these things...

Hope you guys can help...

a few users at symbian freak have had that problem of the panel starting to fall off. That put me off that phone and more to the N96 or the HTC Touch Pro. I'm still trying to decide. Im taking one on an mtn anytime contract.

Speaking of the N96, the build quality isn't that good as I have come across the same issue with the panels which is very poorly put together. The build quality is really getting bad on mobiles these days. :(

hey...

i have had the n85 for 11 days and the whole front navigation panel has peeled off!!!

dont know what to do know because if i send it in to get fixed they would just glue it back on and then it would peel off again!!

i went to the mtn store within 7 days and showed them how loose the panel was...they said that they can only help me if the panel comes off...

do you think the fault is a known fault and that they know how to permanently fix it?

Stronger glue? That really sucks but can't hurt to try return it and say you were there within 7 days about the same issue.

Fusk it. Was keen on the phone until I read these last few comments.. Any other people with the phone care to comment?

the phone is awesome...the oled screen is amazing and s60 fp2 is really great..

build quality is not up to par though...going to send it in and ask them to replace the casing as that is the only trouble with the phone...

hope it helps.

well honestly im not having and build quality issues with my n85 at all
have read about them although and i can see how they could possibly happen
but its not like im so careful with it or anything of the sort, i use it a LOT and its brilliant in my opinion. and FP2 is too. i've had a 6600, n80, n95 and now n85 and i prefer the n85 to all. although the 6600 (egg) was still the best phone for its time

Has anyone upgraded to an N85 on a Vodacom contract yet? I am with Autopage and they keep saying "the phone is being tested before being released.. blah blah blah"

Right, time to post my opinion on the N85 after receiving it 5 days ago. I am very happy with the phone and am glad I chose it. Screen as superb and the battery life is great too no matter how much I use the phone. Fm transmitter works perfectly and music over it is very clear. Mine came out of the box with 11.047 software and the keypad below the screen seems firm - don't think I will have the peeling off problem. Negatively though, my slider is wobbly but overseas the guys are complaining about tight sliders are scratching the keypad so i will keep the wobbles :-) Feel free to ask any questions about the phone and I will answer.

I just recieved my n85 upgrade when I sent my n81 in for repair, and they couldnt fix it. So far I've really enjoyed it. The UI is alot faster than previous s60 devices, and the screen is stunning and huge! Yes, the front navigation panel is a bit wonky, and I also began to wonder if it would come off. It also happens to be very solid, and pressing the buttons can be annoying, because they are flat, and unlike other models... Other than that, the phone is great! The gallery, slow at times, is very smooth and has visual effects when navigating through your personal media. The 5MP camera (being a huge upgrade from the horrible n81 2MP Camera) is perfect in daylight, and captures stunning photos. The same applies for the video camera. At night, as with all phones, the quality drops.

The ringing volume and keypad tones are very loud (personally the keypad tones are too loud on the lowest volume, and tend to annoy me), but when ringing, you can hear the phone clearly. The speakers are clear and crisp, and do not create that metallic reverb that most phones do, they are also stereo. Hmmm, what else? The NaviWheel is very nice, however it tends to stop working randomly, and then at a later stage work again, but you can always just use the phone's original soft keys instead, so no worries. I have had some funny issues on MXit with the phone restarting, and the automatic rotation of the display can cause MXit to crash. Opening and closing of all apps are very fast, however.

Overall Im very impressed, and if I get any problems, I'll let you guys know. :)
