Nokia N9 in SA soon

As awesome as the phone is, buying it is just a waste. Nokia gave up on Meego, so expect little support from Nokia and none from software developers.

Maybe Android will be ported to it.

I would so love an Android with that design and hardware (but a better CPU and slightly bigger screen).
 
wait what??? Nokia still makes phones???the samsung galaxy S2 has better stats all round compared to this other then the 64 gigs space. and aswell it runs andriod which currently has over 40% market share what are developers going to look at? Of-course IOS and android and then blackberry since it still is there nokia is a dying breed of phones.

Why do you think the N9 will need saving? I have an N900 and while I keen to see Alien Dalvik, there's only one Android application I can think of now that I cannot find a native N900 equivalent for, and that is WhatsApp. Although, the N900 has GoogleTalk and Skype IM clients built-in, and I don't know how many people are going to continue using WhatsApp after they have to start paying for it, so I don't know whether I need WhatsApp at all.

Agreed, the N9 is great design and Nokia do make good hardware, I'd buy one today if it had a slide-out keyboard.

Can't help but think what could have been if Nokia made the switch to android instead of windows :(

what makes you conclude that Nokia is outdated?
The built quality of Nokia is second to non, the operating system is effitient and it uses less resources which benefit the user in terms of battery usage
 
I see this blog is full of andriod fanboys who are so blinded they no longer see good things when they come accross one, tell you what i have Nokia E7 and sumsang galaxy sII, start a fire in my house while am asleep i promise you E7 will be one of the items i'll get out with as for Galaxy SII am not sure, yeah if i still have enough time.
 
Nokia handsets have the best design and feel to it, than any of the other handsets in the market. With the Symbian Belle, Meego and Windows, they're going to be back in the game.
 
BTW pre-orders for the N9 64GB version have been sold out in certain countries.

After watching both videos I'm less convinced. The whole "swipe from the edge to go home" idea is very innovative, but based on the way it's implemented in MeeGo I can see why other smartphone OS developers stick to BUTTONS. I'd keep jumping back out of the app while scrolling a web page or playing any gesture-based games. It would irritate the crap out of me after only a day of use. It can only be a good thing that new Nokia smartphones will be running WP7...

Personally I don't know what to think of this phone. I love the design, as much as I loved the design of my N8. The hardware is always a bit behind except for the camera, Nokia has the best builtin-GPS of all phones I ever played with, the Android GPS always takes a lot longer to pick up your location, same with the BlackBerries I tried.

I originally had the N900 which I loved to bits...until the touchscreen stopped working. Took it in, a month later they gave me the N8 with them not having any stock of the N900 for a long time. This left me with mixed feelings, as I am pretty certain it was a downgrade from my N900, and it wasn't really my choice. None the less I took the N8 started using it, and while it doesn't have the coolness factor of other Smartphones, it started to grow on me. I got used to having a 12megapixel camera in my pocket, it really was one of the best things ever of the N8, and while it runs symbian, vs my N900's Meamo it just worked. It had the best quality on voice calls I've ever heard on any phone, and none of the silly problems some Android phones have with calls dropping ect.

That is, until something happened and the N8 died on my yesterday, and refused from there on to turn on again. Not even the 3 button hard reset would let it turn on again, so I took it in again and will see what I get back this time. The N8 didn't even last me 6 months, where the N900 lasted me at least 13 months.

On the upside, Nokia is the only phone provider that has a 2 year warranty on the phone (and I now probably gonna have 3 new phones in a single contract term), unlike the rest which is only 1 year and then the 2nd year the phone networks have some sort of warranty on the phones.
 
This is Nokia's Android Phone, without them releasing an "Android" phone

Seeing that the N900 got Android 2.1 and 2.3 updates even before official Android phones got em, I have no fear of the N9 following in its footsteps.
