For me, I would choose the S2, well, simpley because I've got one. Only recieve mine last Friday. Simple reason is that Android is the new operating system of the future. Nokia will be a giant should they move to Android, but they seem to be holding back for some reason. The S2 is one of those handsets that has been given the term "future proof", meaning the level of the phone ability and it's function would be enough to take it well into the future, considering how often the trends change.
Yes, the N9 is a fantastic phone, but I think Nokia's decision to go with Meego is a bit questionable, unless of course they have future plans with Meego that we don't know about. When the N9 was rumoured some time ago, I still had a N97, and I said that would be my next phone, but as you can see, the trends change on a daily basis. Android is flooding the market with it's usability, and function, even iOS is feeling the punch. The Sensation is an awesome phone in it's own right, my dad has one, and you wont be wasting your money with that purchase, but the phone might not be getting Android 4.0 next year. Like was mentioned in an earlier post, the S2 will be getting ICS in 2012.
So the question remains, do you go with a phone thats got an operating system that's a bit of a missfit in todays standards, or do you get a phone that is set for the future, in terms of specs and function. Like you say, you like to tinker with your phone, both models will give you that option yes, I can't comment on the N9's abilities. In my eyes, Nokia's decision not to adopt Android is killing them, Blackberry is dead, completely, the only thing going for them is cheap data costs..... So, if you willing to take the chance and take the N9, and knowing that it "might" be the only handset using Meego, then go for it, I'm sure you wont regret it.
