Nokia N9 or Galaxy S2?

Galaxy S2

It has a dual core processor (1.4Ghz) even the lumia does not have a dual core processor + Android = MANY APPS Windows Mobile = FEW APPS

A US account is not needed. SA is supported
You can go here: https://market.android.com/
login with a gmail account if you already have one and browse/buy/install apps directly from that site. If you already have an Android phone then the app with be sent to your phone automatically.
I bought 4 apps yesterday, on my pc at work, for 80c each due to the promo they're currently having since they have served 10 billion apps. The apps started downloading almost immediately on the phone without me having to do anything else.

From what I've seen with a friend who has a Windows phone, most of the time I show him a new app, he then checks on Windows Phone market place and the app isn't available

I've been using my credit card, that has been linked to Google Checkout before I even knew that I would want an Android phone.
The same Google Checkout data allowed me to buy from Android Market as soon as they enabled paid apps for SA.
 
Personally I would choose the Nokia N9. Nokia always have the best hardware, and this phone has the fastest camera ever, if that's what you looking for.

I see you're making the same mistake IBM made when they first released the personal computer.

Who cares about Microsoft DOS and OS software? The hardware is most important! :D

Thanks, folks.

So I went into Vodacom World (hate the new name) this weekend, and looked around a bit. I played with the S2, looked at the LG Optimus 3D (nice gimmick - better than I imagined it would be), saw that Nokia had removed the functional N9 from their display, and looked in at HTC's dummy phones as well as S-E's store.

The Galaxy S II is a mini-tablet to me. It's plasticky, bland, and runs Android - but so do all it's competitors. LG had a salesman that had me thinking about their 3D offering, at least. HTC would sell more if they had something to show that actually works. The dummy Desire S feels just right in the hand though, and the Sensation is certainly a looker.

However, it was Sony-Ericsson that blew me away. Besides being able to play with every model they have, I was shown the understated Xperia Pro. People, barring anything else that may happen this week (upgrade happens 18th), this is my phone of choice. It may only have a single core 1GHz chip, but the OS is optimised for it. The hardware keyboard is sublime, and the tweaks that have been added are perfect - for me. 3.7" is not the largest display, but 854x480 looks damned good on it.

I'll still be looking, particularly at the slightly larger phones (I'd still like a dual-core if I can find a phone that rings my bells) - but at least I have a good option to fall back on.
 
Just read online now that WhatsApp is not supported on the N9 and the WhatsApp devs say on their web site that they have no plans to develop for the MeeGo OS.

That means the N9 is truly dead. :(

Shame dude, I feel for you. You're stuck with a very expensive phone that cant even do what a HTC Wildfire and Samsung Ace can do.

All my friends use WhatsApp & they're definitely not 13. :)

I see Windows Phone 7.5 now has it as well.

I'm with a very free phone that can do everything I need it to do while killing most droids on battery life and with all that minimalist sexiness :D

Loving every second of it.

P.S. If I have something to say, I phone, email or sms (in descending order). 90% of the people I communicate with don't even have whatsapp. ;)

That's your usage profile. Mine is totally different, hence the different phone. To be honest, I think that's why we are able to have so many phones on the market at once. Everyone is, or wants to be, unique.

Enjoy your N9. We'll enjoy our phones. Hopefully. ;)
