Nokia N95 - shipping Q1 2007

Wifi niggles

Hi All

The wifi fix Piesang and Zenit has previously posted appears elsewhere on the net as well.

What i have found is that the wifi of the N95 works well with some routers and not with others. I have a many to play with and so far:

Linksys  - Netgear - works 100% - just add WEP/WPA key!

Telkom ADSL 5102g/Mega 100R/Fujitsu Siemens  - this is very funny but: I had to put the gateway address of the service provider before it worked! Normally it should be your router/local gateway

(PS: you can get the external gateway address off the routers web portal)

I must still try a rogue D-link but when i get around to it...

Can anyone suggest a fast microSD to go with the N95

Also: Can anyone tell me that has experienced this firsthand: Is Battery Life and Handset Performance improved with a 64K Sim?

I use a Telkom ADSL 5102G wifi router and mine worked perfectly with the steps in my post above.

Latest news for all of us still waiting for stock on the N95 to arrive. Apparantly 2 containers were NOT  loaded on the ship leaving Finland, and the official respond is 3 to 4 weeks delivery time to SA. But apparantly  MTN is trying something else (maybe fly it here:D ) to get it here sooner. Oh, yes and if you speak with the wrong person..... the respond I also got was : " there is a problem with the N95, some part deffective. Will be ready in 3 to 4 weeks " So either it is some big cover-up ;) and they don't want the guys with their N95's to worry, or it is really still in container in Finland. (SA waiting list was at 7000, about 2 weeks ago)
Maybe it is for the better that I have to wait, then I can just open this post and fix all the little thingys the first day...... :D and then again, by the time I get mine, you'll all be bored (lets hope not) :D

*sigh* - at this rate I could have saved up, flown to Finland and bought the phone with the accompaning T-shirt. Maybe MTN is just making too much money from people using up all their minutes phoning dealers looking for this mysterious, elusive, almost downright mythical phone. :(

On the bright side, good things come to those who wait - and we are being very patient, so the phone should be very good :D

The initial quote was R2499, but haggled a bit and got a R500 discount and waiver of the R150 admin cost. So the total cost was R1999, which is double the price of MTN, but I can't wait until next month like the consultant suggested... I WANT IT NOW!!! :D
He also mentioned that it is NOT Vodacrap branded (will wait and see), and that the system is showing 201 in stock, deliver is 3-7 working days :(

what did it cost you????

Nokia N95 Crash

Hi Guys,

Any of you with the N95 that experience it crashing for no reason (sometimes during phone calls) and restarts itself and once restarted, whenever you make or receive a call, nobody on the other end can hear you?

I have to manually switch the phone off and on again before anyone can hear me. This is about the 2nd or 3rd time it happened so it's kind irritating, especially during a phone call!

I checked for a firmware update on their site but none has been released yet.

Oh dear, sounds like the N95 has the same 'teething' problems as the P990i had.

With the level of sofistication in 'flagship' phones nowadays, it's normal that a few 'niggles' will occur. I'm sure Nokio is working on it, as we speak...

*Where is Piesang now, bad-mouthing the P990i and singing endless praise to the N95? :p

haha

Who was it that was concerned that the TyTn would do this ? Looks like Nokia is slipping up rushing to release phone one after the other. Pity tho their phones use to be rock solid.

My phone's had it's fair share of crashes, but I haven't experienced people on the other end being unable to hear me. I have seen this mentioned before, apparently switching to speakerphone and back also fixes it.

There is a new firmware version out, 11.0.026, it's available from the NSU site for other regions, but not yet for South African phones.
