Nokia OVI Maps?

I wonder if anyone could provide the cost factor for updating these maps please?
We have established that the GPS Licence is FREE FOR LIFE with exception of the map updates.
Thanks in advance.
 
GPS license? What's that?

Voice navigation and map updates are free for life, i.e. ovi maps is completely free.
 
Nokia map updates (with voice navigation) are only free on new(ish) Nokia phones.
Phones that update with OVI. (listed under the "free maps" section)

On older phones (E90 & older) you pay R34 for a 3 month map + voice navigation license.
It depends on the phone model and release date.

new = free
old = not free
 
All Nokia's new phones will have free navigation for life (unless the Navig8 I think, which you have to buy a license for but I may need to be corrected on this one).

E71
E72
5800 XpressMusic
N8
 
I have N95 8GB and that was not on the list for free navigation BUT for a year of voice navigation, its only R100.
 
Map updates are free, but for how long is still to be seen. Especially with Nokia sheeping off to the Windows Mobile platform.
The problem with Ovi though is the limit to the number of countries it supports...map for Angola and DRC anyone?!!

Ah that's a problem. You might have to install Garmin Maps on your mobile for that, and then download a custom map package.
 
The New Ovi (3.6) is pretty amazing. You can download new maps and updates which are categorized by continent, sub categorized by country and sometimes even further sub categorized by state (USA).
