Is it the actual battery cover? You'd think as a sign of good wil a SERVICE provider would just swap it out... I actually don't understand SA companis, they'd rather spend R1000's trying not to replace something, than pay R50 for the new part.

The problem could be the battery cover itself or the cover that holds the battery cover in place, or both. The plastic cover around the camera lens was also loose and squeaking a lot.

The swapping/replacement of phones seems to be a complex process where the dealer doesn't want to take any risks. The owner of the shop in this case was worried that if she replaces my phone she may not be reimbursed by Nokia who may see things differently ... so she sent the phone to Nokia for an assessment first. I'm sitting without my phone - and this could go on for several weeks - while others ponder over the validity of my complaints. I believe it is not how a customer should be treated that is unhappy with a product - especially so soon after he/she got it. But in SA things are like this ... the customer is treated as one begging to have an E90 ... the fact that the customer pays for it counts for little.

Thats really odd... my camera lens doesn't move at all...

Take it up with your service provider.... not the shop... cause they provide the warranty through the various agents don't though?

I got a new E90-1 on Friday from the "just arrived" improved batch (as per MTN) ... and guess what ... it was sent back to Nokia this morning with a battery cover that's very loose (sliding about in locked position) and with casing around the camera lens that's very poorly fitted. Nokia has to do an assessment on my phone now to see if they agree that the faults are severe enough to warrant a replacement. This can take weeks. I'm very unhappy to say the least.

The E90 is turning into a disaster for Nokia.

Lol you know whats wierd? 3 batches ago my E90 also says E90-1 lol, so whos lieing?

Im still very sure the new phones are not released.

Regarding that battery cover you need to be very carefull with it, im not sure if thats real aluminum or if it just sounds like it, but those clips can break so easily!

HELSINKI (Reuters) - Nokia (NOK1V.HE: Quote, Profile, Research) said a defective component in microphones, coupled with high demand, have hampered the availability of its flagship business phone, the E90 Communicator.

Background noise during phone calls, which raised customer complaints, was caused by a defective component in the microphone, spokeswoman Theresa Parenteau for Nokia Enterprise Solutions unit told Reuters on Tuesday.

"Although the issue is now rectified it has resulted in more limited availability than originally anticipated in some markets," she said.

When Nokia unveiled the phone in February 2007 it said it would start selling it in the second quarter in selected markets, with volume shipments coming in the July-September quarter.

Customers have also reported scratches on the phone screen caused by some keyboard keys touching the screen. Nokia said it has now added a strengthening layer on the screens and modified the keyboard, so the keys will not touch the screen.

The HSDPA and WLAN-enabled E90 Communicator, which features a full keyboard, retails for around 750-800 euros ($1,025-$1,093) before taxes and subsidies.

More problems with the E90

Another product rushed to the market - no proper testing & no quality control.

I feel very sorry for the people that's stuck with the first batch.

I have no regrets being an early adopter as the E90 is a phenomenal device. However, if for any reason Nokia declines screen repairs... eish, don't even wanna think about it.

We early adopters are suckers really. Companies abuse us to test their stuff and report problems ... but then show no sympathy/mercy when we discover and report problems. I've been looking at my-symbian.com ... and I hope Nokia does too. We can only hope Nokia realises the extent of the dissatisfaction and do something to properly correct the situation. If not Nokia will earn/deserve a bad reputation and then sales should do the talking.

Yip its not a cheap phone. Better service should be given to the high end handset users!

Oh tawt someone said the new improved ones say E90-1.

xrapidx said something to that effect in post #8. The MTN shop owner told me that mine was of a new batch that she received after sending a faulty batch back to MTN/Nokia. She was made to understand that the new batch consisted of phones that had the reported problems fixed ... clearly not so. A lot of confusion exist over this ... to the detriment of clients.

We assume Nokia is doing something to solve the E90's problems ... but they may be laughing us off whilst working on a completely new communicator.
