Hi.
Wondered if anyone can help. Am seriously considering 3G for my primary internet connection. No one is able to tell me with any certainty if I will be able to do non browser related things on the internet thru the 3G connection. By this I mean online gaming, chat (VOIP) eg Teamspeak etc.

If the above is possible, is the connection shaped to prioritise http/email traffic?

The people selling this product know nothing about it! Very frustrating....

Thanks

Mike333, welcome to MyADSL :).

Vodacom's 3G is not shaped at the moment, this is one of the biggest pros over something like WBS' iBurst which is shaped to death...

I recommend following all the links in v3g's sticky FAQ thread :).

I'm playing online just fine with 3G and the few times i did Voip it worked fine, BUT i saw you mention "teamspeak" ...i assume that relates to CS/Unreal etc types of games. Even though you probably CAN play those just fine, the costs will be enormous. Those shooter games use large amounts of bandwidth , add teamspeak [which is even more bandwidth] on top of that and you will use up 1GB very fast.

I generally play MMORPGs [World of Warcraft/GuildWars/Everquest etc], now those games use much much less bandwidth making it great on 3G [estimate is about 2-3MB per hour, where with CS/Unreal i've heard it goes in the lines of 50MB+ per hour]

In short i'm sure 3G can handle it , it is a matter of whether you can afford it :P

Ummm 3G and FPS. I dont think so unless i have something set up wrong.

Pings to saix best 250-300 early mornings goes up to 400-500 in the afternoon - this is local.

Using 3G for WoW best ping 1020ms can go up to >5000ms.

3G for skype. Sound quality ok, just dont use it to catch up on news it will be history by the time you hear it.
