Ok so for the first time ever I have been capped on my telkom isp 3 gig account. apparently I had clocked up 7.8gigs (unable to verify as my username hasnt worked on telkomsa stats for the whole month)

Just bought a 1 gig account from Web africa to see me thru the month.

Now, as far as I understand the ADSL regs, telkom isp is supposed to allow you to top up your account. However when I called them the only option was to purchase a new account, minimum of 2 gigs for R199. Obviously whatever I dont use I will lose.

Confirm then for me that this is a total disregard and non-compliance of ICASA Adsl Regs?

Yes it is and Telkom don't really care. They tend to take their time when it comes to following the rules, if they decide to follow them ;)

Just wanna make sure i have my ducks in a row before i write a snotty letter to ICASA.

What do you interpret "being able to top up an account" to mean? Able to add half a Gig, a whole Gig?

Able to add as many gigs as you want in x increments ;)

Just think of this first. Telkom gives you 7.8gb's for your account, now if you have to top up you would have to top up above that amount. So maybe getting another account is not such a bad idea ;)

Its the principle really, not how many Gigs I got. Telkom choose to soft cap, I choose to take them up on this offer.

I have no problem with you using up all Telkoms bandwidth, in fact I enjoy the users benefiting ;)

I'm just wondering how they gonna manage the top up thing with what they have now or if they're gonna drop the soft cap.

Guessing they'll just allow you to buy x additional gigs and not worry at what point you were capped. The question is whether your additional gigs will be softcapped or whether you'll only get what you pay for. They won't do away with their soft cap totally because that's their main competitive advantage at the moment.

Cause other isps aren't as well connected as Telkom. I mean SAIX is Telkom ;)

As much as I enjoy not being hard capped with TelkomISP, it is an unfair practice that I would like to see stopped for the greater good.

Dont even know why im bothering thinking about writing to ICASA......whats the bloody point? But again, its all about principle. Maybe just maybe the complaints will reach critical mass and something will change.
