Is there anything a person can do to improve the quality of the no hd channels on dstv when using a large screen tv, some of the channels look really poor?

What channels? Most SD channels are only the travel/food stuff or music channels (just use youtube for that).

Actually yes, but if this is expected then its ok, just didn't expect such a poor quality picture.

Well can I give you the truth?
MonoChoice is well known for compressing SD channels to hell and back to save on bandwidth on the transponders.. so that is part of the problem.. The decoders also don't have much fidelity decoding those channels. Considering the rubbish quality code on those boxes, I am not surprised.

some of the shows on the cartoon channels are also the problem.

Many of the kids shows are on CatchUp On the Exploras and they in HD

Get a plasma, if you can find one. Lcd etc are crap.
