So my SUHD TV is a waste of money?

No. It's all about the technology (software and hardware) that comes with the TV you have. There are no main stream plasma's available these days. OLED is basically the replacement for plasma in terms of contrast and pure blacks. The cost is ridonkulous though.

Latest 4K LCD's rock, as far as I know.

Doesn't matter how good the TV is, if the incoming stream is poor quality there is very little the TV can do to fix it. The bigger the screen the worse the problem becomes. Even the HD channels have bad compression. Often there is bad pixelation, most noticed in darker areas on the screen.

Yes there is a definite visible difference in the way plasma handles poor quality channels. My far cheaper 50" plasma handles poor picture source way better than my much more costly 42" led.

Opposite for me. My logik 42 plasma can't make dstv acceptable unless it HD. A Samsung 42 LCD from the same year makes a better picture with the crap dstv quality.

Interesting. My plasma is a Samsung. Perhaps Samsung have superior picture processing engines irrespective of plasma vs LCD. But then my LCD is an LG so it should be on a par in picture processing.

The other day I saw Trace is in HD now *Air horn* :D I think Channel O or one of the other ones were HD for a good while now. DSTV is hopeless with any kids channels: they almost never show complete seasons, repeats are really criminal, and, as you said, picture quality looks like dog shyte! Even if your TV's upscaling is magnificent, it can't do miracles.

Yip. Better name brands can make poor quality look better.
Logik is fine if the input great. Ps3 games can't tell the difference with newer tv's, mostly actually better. at the same time it started bleeding colour (only white) 2 years ago. But when it comes to gaming it still solid.
