Noob ebucks person

100% agree with people here,

but again, you need to SPEND money to EARN Ebucks.
you cant just sit down and earn Ebucks for nothing, you have to make an effort.

opening accounts, putting money in savings, only using engen and all the rest of it.
yes its doable, but it takes a EFFORT, its not something that were you not looking to earn ebucks,
you would do anyway, just because you can?

I mean how many here would take overdrafts every month if you didnt HAVE TO? to earn Ebucks.
hence my point, Zero sum game, you need to go and make the effort and spend the money, and FNB gives you something saying thanks.

your basically paying your own Ebucks, nothing is for Free in the world, no free lunch here.
yes I do agree on maximizing your rewards,
but I wont go out of my way to earn those rewards, by taking out overdrafts and accounts and all the rest of it.

as one ends up paying for the ebucks indirectly.

It is muuuuch easier to reach level 5 on gold.

Gold fusion, R500+ online spend, R1500+ total spend, cash@till withdrawal and viewing the "maximise my rewards" tab on the app is all you need to hit level 5

Sigh i feel like i was tricked lol - Gold to Premier and seeing LITTLE benefits.

That's what I meant with my second point but I don't know the correct terms or details. Doesn't really affect the consumer very much.

I misunderstood you. Your point is valid that the "swipe fee" doesn't really exist for most card holders in SA, but the banks make money off the shops with it. Those fees help to pay for e bucks.

Gold makes it easier to reach level 5 but has low caps.
If you spend more than R1750 at checkers, R1500 on fuel and more than R7500 in total, you would earn a lot more ebucks by upgrading your account.

Upgrading though makes it harder to reach level 5.

You just need to mess around with the calculator and see what works for you :)

You can definitely earn ebucks without trying. You earn more when trying, but even before I started playing the ebucks game, I was earning enough to cover my banking costs. Now I play the game to maximise the earn.

Well you can do one of 2 things, downgrade to gold (fusion!) Or move to premier fusion. They give you 500 points just for having a fusion account on gold.
This is how I got level 5 on gold fusion
1. Have a fusion account with credit limit set to minimum they allowed (R1k)
2. 2 app transactions a month
3. View the how to earn more Ebucks tab
4. FNB funeral plan (sigh, my people love expensive funerals)
5. Speed 500 online (instead of debit orders my rain LTE and afrihost fibre are billed to the card, add YouTube premium and Netflix to this this plus a random purchase on Takealot)
6. No ATM withdrawals!
7. Grow savings account by R500, at some point it's hard to I reset to 0 and start again. It's hard because I keep my savings at another bank.

For actual Ebucks (~4500eB, R450)
1. Petrol at engen only (got 7000eB for the quarter since I financed through them)
2. 50% shopping at Checkers since PnP and Woolies are closer.
3. Spend using card even offering for people to transfer money to me and then I spend
4. UberEats when lazy and want anything but KFC takeaway (~R300pm)
5. KFC takeaway if I drive out to get takeaways (~R100pm)

Regardless of bank, you should be able to cover banking costs with the first ~R 5 000 on deposit. Save more to earn more. Very simple. Not fun though.

I have a gold account but not my main account. Would transferring money into eat satisfy the qualifying criteria to start earning ebucks? My salary is paid elsewhere and use this account more as a savings pocket I don't want to access.

Quick question, would scheduled transfers count to the 4, thinking of automating it

No, scheduled transfer or payments do not count.

I have a bond with another bank, a wife, mom and garden service that I pay monthly so my 4 transaction are sorted.

Easiest would be to create a reminder and do all 4 at the same time. Even if it's 4x R10 payments into an account like telkom, municipality or your partner.

ah so it has to be all different accounts? cant be like 4x R10 payment to wife

Out of curiousity, when do you do it? I have no idea how ebucks calculates monthly? 1st to 31st? 10th to 10th?

it can be to the same person as long as it is 4 separate transactions.

1st to 31st.

It can be 4 transaction to the same account. I just do not need to as already have more than 4 payments I need to make.

Ebucks runs from the 1st to the last day of the month. The transaction needs to reflect in the month for it to be considered. I make my payments between the 1st and 5th of every month.

Maybe a mistake on my end :p - i get paid on the 26th and do everything on that day

and the transactions can be from credit or cheque correct?

You're clearly not familiar with what "zero-sum" means. It means just what it says - that you can't actually gain anything because what is gained somewhere is lost somewhere else. If we play cards and I win R100 it's because my opponents have lost it. The net change in wealth is zero.

What you're trying to say is, ebucks isn't free money. You're right. But the return-on-investment is greater than the cost (for most of us who frequent these kinds of threads). It's definitely not a zero-sum game.

Taking loans and buying insurance that you don't need in order to get ebucks is silly. But you've got to spend money to live and do whatever it is you want to do anyway, so structuring your spending to earn some ebucks makes a lot of economic sense. And (in a certain sense) - since you were going to spend the money anyway - you may as well get the ebucks, so they become effectively free.

I don't spend a single cent to earn ebucks that I wouldn't spend anyway to eat and drive and have a place to live. So for me it works out quite nicely.

but again, you need to SPEND money to EARN Ebucks.

You bring this up regularly, but IMO it's not quite the case. Yes, I go out of my way to spend at specific places (shop at Checkers, fill up at Engen), however, if ebucks were not part of the equation, I'd be spending the same amount elsewhere and get nothing.

So do you spend to get? Yes. Do you spend extra to get ebucks? No.
