This should be a simple problem for the more experienced linux users here.
I've installed ubuntu 20.04.3 and I cannot install apps from the software boutique. I click on an app to install it but it just says "Package does not exist".

I install ubuntu only once every 3 years. Last time I found that I had to use the following command (something involving sudo apt get ... ) to install software. But this time around I just can't get the command with the correct syntax.

Can someone please be of assistance?

First try what DWPTA says above ^. If that does not work then open "Software & Updates". The tab on the left is "Ubuntu Software", with a drop-down list for the server. Try picking a different server.

If you are still having no luck then try installing from Synaptic, it tends to work better than the standard Ubuntu Software installer. To install Synaptic first do the update thing above and then enter:

sudo apt-get install synaptic

You can also try using aptitude, which is terminal-based but is very user-friendly.
