Do you ever get the urge quit your job, pack just your macbook and write code while you travel the world and drink coffee... I know its random, but could this work I wonder, or at least for a while?

i doubt it. Some vindictive accountant/project manager will put the brakes on. They cant have someone having more fun than them, and theirs is very sh**ty existence :D

Sitting in Koh Samui (Thailand) writing this :)
On my HP laptop! Work for myself; come and go as I please.

/in before Mac/Win/Lin Holy War

...would be great one could just code whatever you want for a while with no clients to complain etc.

Haha show-off! I would so love to do that, how did you get out of this mind numbuing routine? are you running a startup?

I would figure that you would need a guaranteed revenue stream to start with, get a few dependable clients and gradually lose them as pet project gains traction, then you can work on that exclusively.

Yea, but how will you survive?

Erm.. a Normadic coder would be a coder from Norway.

I think you mean Nomadic coder..

^This! Got some SLA's going with a few good clients and Bob's your uncle. I made a conscious decision not to expand (hire grunts), so that I can do this. Live free.

I did work corporate for a while and hated it. H-a-t-e-d it. I do much better work cause the projects are mine and my quality of life is awesome. I could make lots more money in a corporate environment or if I convert my business to a proper agency. Not a chance though. Confucius said "Get a job you will love, and you will not work a day in your life."

How much do you have to make to live the high life in Thailand?

Flight center has some awesome deals to anywhere. Thailand is dirt cheap once you are there. For this trip I paid R26K for 10 days and 2 people at a 4 star hotel. I tend to go away on short trips though since I have 2 dogs (https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/384998_10151065474355504_1235803381_n.jpg). If I leave them too long at my moms place she might decide not to give them back. Already took my cat.

When I'm home I play with my dogs and work in between. High pressure lifestyle :)
