- Norman started working at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as Electronic Engineer;
- National Intelligence Agency (NIA) as Senior IT Security Advisor;
- Department of Finance and Economic Development (now Limpopo Provincial Treasury) as Senior Manager: Financial Systems;
- Electronic Communications Security (COMSEC) (Pty) Ltd as Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Manager;
- General Manager: Research and Development at the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) Pty Ltd, with research emphasis on all aspects of ICTs to enable government to enhance service delivery to their clients.
He has written a number of research papers, presented them at national and international conferences. Two of the SITA research projects competed internationally, obtaining finalist and semi-finalist positions.
One other highlight was the development of high performing speaker identification system with 18% improvement of a five-year world-record of the world-leader in speaker identification, Professor D Reynolds, an academic from the world's best University in Technology, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA). A new world record was set in South Africa.
In all his positions, he was been privileged to have had liaised, assisted, and worked with all kinds of government clients: nationally, provincially, and local; non- government organizations; industries; SMMEs, research institutions; and academia.
