I wanted to know if anybody had tried the new Norton 360 product from Symantec. I installed the 15 day trial and I was very impressed. It is fast and it seems like you can leave it alone and it will do its thing. Much better than Total Internet Protection from Symantec that I was using before.

Before I buy I am trying it out. Had anybody had any negative/positive experiences?

Not with this product I have not had any experience, but from previous Symantec experience I know never to touch their products.

Hey

Do you have any specifics? I stopped using Symantec products in 2004 because they were bloated and slow. Norton 360 looks and feels as though it is far more reliable. LiveUpdate is also rock solid now and there don't seem to be as many conflicts with other programs. It looks as though they have come a long way...

I work in the industry, I cant tell you how many times people have paid me to safely remove nortons from their system.

Also, I don't trust their backup products. I have seen a friend of mine use them successfully but I learnt the hard way that its not for everyone.

I remember their ceo mentioning he was aware of the problems with bloat and bad programming. Perhaps 360 is their new product taking that into concern. Its just I have been burnt too many times with Symantec products so I will wait until I see what the general opinion is.

If you are going to pay for a system I would suggest Nod32 of Trend Mirco Internet Security.

I had internet security 2004/5/6 and got so fed up with all the crashes, malware, trojans, and nonsense getting through that i changed to kaspersky the beginning of the year. the norton firewall could only be set at 'useless' and 'nazi'. KAV seems much more stable, no crashes yet. i'm really impressed. chances are very slim that i will touch a symantec product again.

I have taken a look at the reviews on Norton Internet Security 2006 (everyone absolutely hated it) and 2007 (seems a bit better but users hated it) and they didn't look too good. It looks like Norton 360 is doing a bit better though. I think that I am going to take a change and fork over some cash at the end of my trial...

I have had Norton Internet Security 2007 since it's launch, and have paid for a 365 day subscription. My wife's notebook still has it installed (she swears by it). I found it quite an improvement over the previous bloated versions, but it still does not beat AVG in terms of system resource demand. I have been using AVG on the other two systems in my home office for a few months now and have not a thing to complain about. The next payment towards an antivirus program will definitely go to AVG.

In terms of backup software, stay very far away from Norton products. Rather opt for something like Acronis products (a little expensive but worth it), I cannot complain about it.

My 2 cents...

My 2 cents worth..
I initially started with Norton 2005 but I have tried several products since then, mainly due to Norton being such a resource hog. My all time favorite remains Panda for detected etc. But for R.V.quality, my vote goes to Bitdefender. Am using it on my desktops and notebook. (1x BD10 Internet Security, 1 x BD10 AntiVirus + and 1 x BD8 (free edition). Light on resources, no conflicts so far and NO MALWARE. (BD10 Internet Security firewall took a bit of tweaking for my home-network but now A1)

I started with Norton a long time ago and loved it. I stopped after 2004 as the rest of the products were horrible and resource hungry.

Even worse was SystemWorks.

I then moved over to NOD32 after trialling every single AV software worth mentioning. NOD32 works well, is small and uses minimal resources. It picked up a trojan once, but could not remove it.

If you want to try any Norton product from 2006 and below:
1. Only use NAV, and not SystemWorks, Internet Security etc.
2. Disable check outgoing email.
These 2 options increase speed dramatically.

I have now tried NAV2007 and love it. Uses less resources than NOD32, finds eveything and works in the background when doing a full system scan. I can highly recommend it.

Did some beta testing with Norton360 - looked good, similar to OneCare Live. I have not played with final product yet, although tempted. One thing holding me back is the fact that comprehensive suites take up lots of resources etc, when the average user only needs an AV program and and antispyware product.

Try NAV2007 - you won't be disappointed.

Hey

I chose Norton 360. It is based on the same technology as Internet Security 2007. I am an advanced user and in the past I have messed around with settings and I used to love to tweak stuff. After using Mcafee Total Internet Protection and having half the stuff not work and the other half needing constant attention I am tired of having stuff pop up and tweaking stuff. Norton 360 just sits there. It doesn't even prompt you when it finds a virus - it just removes it. I also like the 2 gigs of free online backup and it is proving to be quite useful...

I personally would not touch any Symantec product with a 30-foot stick and a pair of rubber gloves...
