Norton sucks ass

yeah...allot of improvements in version 2011. Would still run Linux too if it wasn't for my game obsession.
 
Big difference between Symantec and Norton, it seems.

Been using Symantec Endpoint Protection for a while now, no slowdowns or other issues. But it is bloatware, but consider that it's got a firewall, antivirus and other stuff all in one package...

The kind of firewall that doesn't allow the end-user (me) to modify its settings get uninstalled quick-quick.
 
We run Symantec and Norton at the office , 2000 pc's.
It misses viruses all the time, sad to say.
 
After all the years that they've been doing this they still don't get it right. The first thing I kill on a new machine is the free Symantec/Norton stuff. MSE works great for a free solution, and whenever I need something stronger I get Kasperski. Never failed me. No false positives (old Norton problem).
 
Thanks guys....I just uninstalled my Norton and downloaded MSE....hope it works well
 
MSE won't dissapoint. We use Sophos in our enterprise and it sometimes misses something then we install mse witch picks up the virus and cleans it.
 
Around this time of year I compile a report based on 3rd party testers, av-comparatives, av-test, virusbtn... I then run the trial during December and based on my findings I make recommendations which AV people should buy and use for the next 365 days. Surprisingly F-Secure 2011 seems to be leading...

I just uninstalled my Norton and installed MSE...
Did the update and then did a full scan....
No threats.....so it seems Norton didn't do too bad

The only things you need to worry about is...

1) Norton draining your system and putting a lag on it. But if you don't notice it then don't worry about it.
2) When uninstalling Norton it doesn't clean off properly and leaves files behind that mess up your internet. You then need to get the uninstall utility from their website to properly clean off your sytem.

It's not that Norton is a bad AV system... it's not... it has always been rated pretty highly in terms of detection. It is just that the program is too intrusive and a memory hog. But if you are happy with it I would not worry about it.

I don't see why you should have to buy an AV system thought when there is a very good free one out there (MSE).

How long left on your Norton subscription?

MSE definitely way to go.

MSE does not have a firewall but XPSP3, Vista and Win7 does have one built in.
 
I'm more worried about it being a system-hog and for not uninstalling properly when my free trial finishes (I have about 50 days left)
 
Uninstall it - possibly repeatedly because it's a horrible, stubborn program, and get MS security essentials. You'll notice your PC will be faster.

Just Kidding... no really, Norton is the devil. I see it comes with a lot of software downloads these days (same with McAfee). If you don't actually wait and see to check what other crap they are trying to give you... you can easily click past it without noticing the check box.

Fortunately there is a complete Norton removal tool on their website (if you date go there)! :)

Yeah, I should know better. But I really didn't mean to install it in the first place. Anyway, its off now!
