Had my whole home PC redone, Win XP home, Office 2007. Got Norton Internet Security - Yes, I was uninformed when making this decision. Apparently downloads much longer than e.g. Kaspersky/ BitDefender, and slows down PC a lot.

PC will be used very little, want to save money if can.

But I want it to be very secure because I will be copying a lot of stuff with memory sticks / external hard drives etc., from my home PC to/ from work PC.

Little browsing & small e-mails therefore, but will be refreshing the virus strings all the time.

Looks unlikely that I'll get Neotel where I live - a big mountain is in the way. Already Neotel on other side of mountain.

How long will it take to refresh Norton on
1) A landlineI mean dial-up. Don’t faint, maybe faster with more people leaving Telkom?
2) ADSL 384kb. P.s. what is the 'circuit' speed e.g. 192kb vs. 384kb, and is this chosen by you or pre-ordained by your fixed line?

Thanks for helping

OK so i'm not the most sophisticated user around... just want to know if it'll take 2 hours to update Norton on dial-up vs. 5 mins? on the most basic ADSL option. Or 3 hours. Or whatever... :)

ok, i've corrected my typos above just to show i'm not a TOTAL idiot... never mind, i'm switching to broadband anyway, life's too short. Will create a more "informed" thread for my next questions. Tks

Sorry man - my quick reply the other day was a bit harsh. Welcome to My BB & all that. Good to hear you'll be getting dsl. And I hear the latest norton is actually not so bad. Enjoy.
