Starting a new thread to track and discuss the implementation of the Nora (Norwood, Orchards, Abbotsford) fibre network.

As things currently stand, Vulacom were given the boot, and now Fibrehood is busy implementing

Timelines are expected as follows

Apparently Telkom are also now rolling out in the area

Our fibre service in Orchards has been active for two weeks using Fibrehoods+Webafrica. So far no issues. Speedtest.net to Seacom server give around 98 mbps DL, 51 mbps UL with 2 ms latency.
 
I had technicians installing poles, fibre nodes and cable on my road on Friday afternoon. Telkom too, connected a fibre node to a telephone pole in the corner of my yard.

Nellie road, it's so close now I can almost smell it!! :love:
 
DAC come today and did the cabling to me house, and installed the ONT
thursday the next team will come to do the splicing, getting closer.......!

Oooooh, exciting times ahead!! What are your blocks going live dates? Fibrehoods running to schedule? My block is due to go live Nov 18 - Dec 1.

Have a site inspection with DAC/Hendrik scheduled for this morning...

EDIT: As I was typing this he arrived. ONT install scheduled for late next week.

Did you guys have to do anything to get the install? I've signed up with vox and my "live" dates are 1-30 Nov. Do I just wait patiently for a call?
 
They phoned me w week before my streets go live date. But assuming your node is up they might do the 1st part meanwhile, but they won't splice until your street is lit up. But yeah email brightlink, they can guide you
 
I owe you guys one! Gady called me within the hour and scheduled a site survey for Monday. :)

Why you not live yet? Thought you would be here bragging by now?!! My ONT and splicing is scheduled for the same day... :D
 
I'm in Savoy Estate, had a few troubles with DAC. The installers ran to the wrong pole.. Now they have to come on Saturday and rerun the cable.

At least the ONT is spliced already, just need to rerun the cable and splice to the newly installed dome joint on the pole outside my house
 
I got spliced a week ago. Still not active. Apparently infrastructure issues in my zone so 2 weeks added to my go live date. Grrrrrrrr
 
Yup. Every day i come home from work, go to my ONT, and watch how i blinks that sad red alarm. Sad, and full of disappointment

So once you got a green light, what then? Is the line effectively live? You then get a router, connect it to the ONT via ethernet cable, enter ISP details into router and you good to go?
