Just thought I would post this here after what I experienced at Norwood SAPS this morning (after a MVA).

When you go to report a MVA, they have a dodge printed notice that says copies of the AR Form are charged at R205 a copy.

When I requested a copy of the form, the officer pointed to the sign and said pay R205. I refused, and said take me to the cashier because that doesn't sound right. Along the way (in the corridor of the SAPS building) they have a different, official looking notice which says copies of AR forms are R4.80.

I pointed this out to the officer, who then sheepishly said yes it's different, but don't worry he'll organise my copies for free now.

What are the chances the officers sitting out in front are pocketing R200.20?

Where can I report this? Surely it is fraud?

I has never cost me a cent. I am pretty sure you are not supposed to pay anything. But R4.80 would make sense to get a copy of the report.

For Metro police you can phone 0800203712 I'm not sure if you can report SAPS to them though.
Maybe give them a call they might at least know who to phone if they cant help you.

AR forms are free.

Contact your local ICD (Independent Complaints Directorate), what the Norwood SAPS office is doing is not right in the slightest, and very probably illegal.

Thanks, forgot about IPPID. The actual form is free, but does that apply to making copies of completed forms?

Ahhh no, probably not.. but the most they can charge is a reasonable photocopy charge... R4.80 seems fair...

R205 is an officer trying to pocket extra change.
