Noshing on Raspberry Pi

Whats the difference between Personal Use and Business use on http://za.rs-online.com ?

Personal use takes you to a site where prices aren't in rands and when converted it comes to around R370 while selecting business use gets it to you for R299 . Is personal use being imported ?

The Italian-born Arduino is even simpler and cheaper than the Raspberry Pi; and is a “microcontroller” rather than a fully fledged computer.

A microcontroller is a fully fledged computer, complete with CPU, RAM, a little storage memory and I/O capabilities.

I ordered 2 Pi's with case each from Electrocomp Express on 4 Jan & arrived 11 Jan. Cost R450 for Pi & R99 for Case (ex VAT)
I'm very impressed with Electrocomp Express http://www.eexpress.co.za Each time I had a query had a response in minutes via email.

Actually just got mine yesterday, (512mb ram version) delivered to my door: Total paid was R160 all Incl.
No accessories ofcourse, but I've got some stuff laying around that'll work.

Got it on backorder from RS.
Definitely deal of the year, along with Windows 8 pro 64bit upg at R160 on release. :)

160? How? That sketchy thread with the glitch?

I really want one...but the stupid lead times and high prices are a bit of an issue for me. At 800+ I might as well buy a low powered PC.

They're about NZ$89.00 here, and for $120 I can get a 7' A13 Android tablet, still I'm thinking Pi might make a low powered always on skype phone...... or an XBMC player for the spare room......

Fraid so, but it was a really long wait I'll tell you that.
Looking forward to the weekend to see about using it for home security.

So, correct me if I'm wrong... eexpress has stock and they deliver quickly, but are a little but more expensive. Ordering from rs-online depends on whether is personal or business use(I still don't know the difference) and while its cheaper, it will take a while till its shipped ?

Just tell me where to buy it from.

What home security plans do you have for it?

Have a couple of things in mind:
Run surveillance software on the Pi.
Phone contract coming to an end shortly, so I want to set up the old Desire HD as a wlan security cam.
Use cat5 USB extension cables to hook up some additional webcams to the Pi.

Low power consumption system on the cheap :)

eexpress.co.za is R450.00 + vat. web price is calculated with mark-up. They have a std price, so they re-quote.
