I've used like 100mb of my alotted 3gb for june.
The problem is that i can't download torrents via P2P. It only worked for a little while last night connecting to multiple peers/seeds. Now back down to 1kb/s. Any suggestions? (I'm not using any proxies)

welcome to the ongoing stuff.. search the forum if you have the energy, for 'fixes' and 'workarounds' and other phrases used to disguise the fact that the service as offered by IBurst doesnt work for certain protocols - unless you want to pay an insanely over-inflated price for their 9 gig package, which apparently 'allows' p2p..

some people are lucky and have a reasonable p2p experience, others have to use 'workarounds' - others kill time waiting for their adsl connections and use local torrent/dc++ hubs to get highspeed data..

Myles, the official WBS statement is iBurst customers are not allowed to use P2P on any iBurst packages except the 9GB package [if you get it working via workarounds then you are cheating WBS' iBurst bandwidth shaping system], and the 9GB iBurst package is incredibly bad value for money when you consider other broadband alternatives, like ADSL where you can get 30GB per month for much the same total price as WBS' iBurst 9GB package.

Due to excessive DOS attacks and worm traffic, the following TCP ports will be restricted: 445, 135, 139, 1433. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Might be relevant

Most ISP's block those ports. 445,135,139 are windows file sharing/netbeui. 1433 is SQL server.

An actual incident report from WBS? Well, well, well...

I get hit on those ports continually, a lot from iBurst ip's.

Iburst is the bigest s```i connection not only for P2P but for everything....getting 30kbps when unncaped is not cool at all...

Myles, personally, I can't use torrents at all on the 3GB package. Speeds hover below 1kB/s.

To save you some searching, the only way I found around it ( after trying proxies, socks, funny ports, EVERYTHING ), is to use a Torrentflux account. Search for Torrentflux on the fourm to get more the details.

This will cost you extra per month ( different amount depending on what you want ), but personally that solved all my problems and I am happy now.

I do NOT recommend iBurst for P2P at all. If you need to download a lot, go for ADSL with a top up package instead. In fact, you can probably pull down more with an ISDN line and callmore.

I like iBurst for the fact that I get a steady 7kB/s line 24/7. If I was getting the sub 2kB speeds that others seem to experience, I would have bailed by now though.

Do u guys think p2p will last in the future ?I have heard microsoft is trying to stop this protocol and will try at all costs to eliminate it in the future.

P2P isn't a protocol. It just means connecting directly to a peer to copy stuff from them (and vice versa) without going via a server.

There are however different protocol implementations of P2P such as BitTorrent, eDonkey etc.

Microsoft is retarded if they think they can stop all forms of P2P...

me too comes and goes , JJ but its still the best for me when it does however work

ha ha ha

I would not have been complaining all this time on the forums if WBS (stands for World of Bull Sh*t) did put on their web site a well visible text explaining that P2P will not work on the relevant packages. Then I would not have spent my time and money to sign with them! Easy as that!

Well Sword as i explained a while ago - i was never informed about p2p - the reseller never told me about it. So when i complained on the forum i got shot down by some people here - remember i was called a pig ! ha ha ha

Craigsa, I'm glad you can laugh about that incident now. It was HECTIC when it happened. Lots of forumites got VERY pissed off with that whole, diabolical episode (not with you of course). My blood is boiling, I need to go break something. Never mention it again!!!
