Hi,

I will be out the country for 2 years. I would like to retain my cell number...

I don't mind spending a little money to make sure this happens? Maybe get the cheapest contract out there and just leave money in my bank account? Can I do this on Pre paid?

What would you guys suggest?

My contract expired and i shifted to prepaid and kept my number.

The rules however are something like an active charge (like a call, data doesnt count apparently) either every month or every 3 months.
Like making a call.
The cheapest contract would prob be your safest bet, like the R49 give or take topup. Theres that mobile bible somewhere, should help you.

I would suggest you 'borrow' the number to someone. Vodacom has a top up 49 with a cheapie for R29/month.

topup using internet banking?
on standard bank u can enter any amount, but i think R29 is the minimum

Take it with you and send an sms every now and again on prepaid roaming :) You can top up using internet banking

Convert it to a 4U contract with Vodacom, just make sure nobody gets hold of it while you're away. The 4U contract has R0 subscription, you just pay for usage. And its a month-to-month contract.

Give the number to a friend... ask him to use it now and again but of cuase, set a nice voicemail so people know.

I think it should be fine.
