Not so High Definition?

Interesting, all is not what it seems!

In short, the processing cost of tiling can seem prohibitive to some developers, so they either lower the resolution, or in the case of Black Rock Studios' game, they drop the anti-aliasing completely. Often, computationally less expensive effects like blurring are added instead which rarely helps overall image quality, hence the term coined by Eurogamer editor Tom Bramwell: the Vaseline effect. [Not sure I invented this, but I'll take it. - Ed]

I also took a reading about this yesterday.
Most people don't really care as long as the game looks good but then don't market your console as HD if it is truely not HD.

It seems it is the Devs pulling the wool over our eye's, Anyway I agree during the game play no one actually pause and watches the fine details or scenary on the screen unless your subconcious mind pick up the differences per se', but yet then they must alter the spec's accordingly.

Now we know why M$ chqanged the requirements re HD but as the article states sloppy unoptimised code may be the result.

It does not suprise me. Consoles always have a weird compromise somewhere.

better to have a game running at lower resolutions or no Anti-aliasing than Consoles that Blow up/RROD because of heat problems..

Tekken 6 PS3/360: The resolution game

Our analysis was exclusive to the Xbox 360 version of the game, and we promised an update on the PS3 rendition, so let's get going. To put it simply, there's good news and bad news here. Let's get the bad tidings out of the way first: while there is the option to switch between 1024x576 and 1365x768 modes on Xbox 360 (via tweaking the motion blur setting between on and off), the PS3 version is locked exclusively to the lower resolution. The good news is that even so, the PS3 version still manages to command a slightly higher image quality overall if you can do without the motion blur.

Yes, that's the reason. The hardware has unlimited processing power, but will explode if it's used.
