Not So Popular

Dude, what's with the hate towards Peugeots? The Peugeot 208 GTI is one hell of a pocket rocket, the new 3008 is causing some serious waves in the small SUV sector, and the Peugeot 508 remains one of the most underrated big sedans ever.

Peugeot doesn't make a single bad car: the 308, 2008 and even 108 are all good for what they do. The only people not talking about their lineup are the ones who are still stuck in the Polo/Fortuner mould.

I've done 3000km or so in a 208 1.6 and it's one of the nicest cars I've driven. I was thinking of actually keeping it as my daily rather than selling it but then I got something a little different. I'll seriously miss that car when I sell it!

Yeah, when the new 208 came out in that bold champagne pink colour, I had to salute Peugeot for a very bold decision in a market where the majority of cars are white, black or grey (*yawn*). Really liked that standard full colour screen, it was a real forerunner in the B-segment with that tech.

With all the slagging budget cars get from keyboard warriors you will struggle to get decent feedback on the cheaper cars.

Bought a Datsun Go Lux for my SO and been pleasantly surprised by handling, comfort and spaciousness.

Do you like your significant other?

I have been reading this forum for a while people asking advice about cars, which car do buy and some have issues with their cars. The are cars that are not mentioned when people ask which car to buy and I have observed also these cars are not many on our roads. I'm talking about these cars

1. Chevrolet Sonic
2.Nissian Micra (I have seen few on our roads)
3.Peugeot cars

I think it is cos people have favourites & South Africans are badge snobs in general.

My advice to you is, buy what you can afford.

There are many SAFE yet affordable options.

The cost of ownership doesn't end at the price tag of car.

Everybody's needs are different but there are favourites in each segment.

I wont tell you what to but take the cost of overall ownership into account.

I would stay away from Peugeot though. Their sales are terrible. Have a look at the monthly sales figures of Peugeot, they are struggling. Citroën has left SA and Peugeot might be forced to do the same someday.

The only French car I suggest is Renault. They are doing well in SA. Do not buy the kwid though, it is terrible and a coffin on wheels.

Set a budget, query insurance costs, find out about service costs and parts availability (if servicing privately).

Phone midas, phone dealerships and phone insurance company. Then make a decision on which car you like, i am OCD when it comes to this stuff.

So after seeing all the datsun go bashing on this thread, I decided to google a bit and came across this on their website.

In today’s day and age, questioning a car’s safety rating ranks high during the purchase cycle, however, studies have shown that almost all road accidents are a direct result of poor car maintenance, driving skills, as well as unfavourable road and weather conditions. Therefore, your car having a high NCAP rating is favourable, but this only takes into account how a vehicle will fare in a crash test situation.

I am appalled with their PR teams... how can they actually get away with that? Does anyone know who I'd need to complain to, as that sounds like some tricky wording that polishes this turd of a car...

It's the car you buy for people you want to die.

Grew up in an age where creature comforts and coddling weren't the order of the day. More people get injured by airbags and Maltese poodles than pitbulls by the way.

Well played:p
