Note taking tablet for varsity

Galaxy Tab is terrible to use a stylus and write on as its not designed for that. Galaxy note is a completed different story.

That lifescribe pen looks pretty cool because its cheap and can be used in conjunction with a cheap tab.

I find it incredibly uncomfortable to take quick notes while trying to ensure my hand doesn't touch the screen or while keeping my hand finely balanced on a tiny portion of it. They are awful note-taking machines in my experience...

Im left handed and dont have those problems (meaning I have to write over the screen because we write left to right). But as said, stylus on a Galaxy Tab will suck. You need the Note if you are ganna go for a tablet with a stylus. A more economical choice is that pen of yours with a cheap tab.

That could be incredibly useful for me as well.

Think I might have to get the company to scrounge up the petty cash for one to "test"

Meeting minutes are accurate and simple; all meetings are recorded so there is no objection to anything and allows for proper recourse if necessary; notes are automatically synced to Evernote etc. I absolutely love the thing. I can wax lyrical about it all day long...:D

How clear is the recorded audio? What's the range like?

I can't speak about the new ones, but the one I have records expensive dictaphone quality and comes with stereoscopic earphones. So if you want to record from a large hall, you plug in the headphones which records further and in stereo. The quality can be set by the user a well if you like and the speaker is perfectly adequate to listen back to...

My number one choice would still be pen + paper, tablets are simply not that great to write on and drawing a picture/diagram on a laptop isn't going to work.
Only, possibly expensive, downside to the Livescribe pens is that you can't just use any paper.

Which aren't all that expensive to be honest. My set came with 5 notepads which is enough to see me through 6 months at least. Same goes for the pen refills which I think are also proprietary, but I haven't needed to refill mine yet...

Hey DJ,

The LiveScribe pen sounds cool but do can you use it on any "generic" notepad or do you need to buy the one from their store?

You need to buy their notepads or you can print your own. DJ might get by with five in six months, but a student taking notes might be a different story.

It needs the dot-paper from their store as it used it to calibrate what the pen's camera is tracking. You can however use any ordinary paper and simply record the audio, but they won't be synchronised...

You become a shorthand expert - no need for lengthy notes with the pen. Just two or three key-words and tap it to listen - you then add additional notes to it afterwards if necessary and it incorporates the new notes into the same set...
