Seeing that DotCo has the ballz to take Telkom to court, and the fact the judge ruled in their favour. A precedent has been set.

If you are truly worried about the consumer, then you will follow suit.
Other then that. Any ISP that does not join the legal battle with DotCo and create a wave of media and such, I will personally SLANDER you all. And as this community has brought Sentech Down to its knees, we/I shall bring you down too.

1 Year prior to this Telkom were not troubled at all. 1 Year later and theres judge ruling AGAINST Telkom. This has got to be documented for Historical purposes. Anyways... I am 1 person and I got the right information to the right people at the right time... which led to the 702 interview with Johan and DotCo.

And yes take it as a threat. I am a CONSUMER... And I will personally not stand for companies that dont have the consumers best interest at heart.
Revolution is on the door step. Either EMBRACE!!! or face the consequence.
NOTE TO: Papi Telkom, SNO, Internet Solutions, DataPro, and whoever else out there that has an alteria motive to Telkoms Per/Gig billing system. FIGHT!!!

That was very " Jerry Maquire-esque" of you moosag, I hope you get a gazillion brownie points.

I would not be supprised if IS move all there ADSL connectievty to the SNO, they will now be able to bargin based on volume and the two providers in SA.

This should be very intresting.

I am so glad that this has happened.

It draws a fine line between companies that actually care about the consumer and the greater good, and companies that are only worried about the money and those are the ones that will stab you in the back the first chance they get. No different to Telkom IMO.

The other great part about all this is that prior to MyADSL, is that peope who could actually do something really did not have a platform to stand on. Now with a Broadband Activist group, we get to dictate whats right and wrong, and actually do something about it.

Like I said.. When Sentech started their nonsense they got put in their place. When the big ISP's are not willing to embrace fair pricing models, keep quiet, and go with the flow, and most of all if they dont embrace competition (WHICH IN ANY INDUSTRY... ALL COMPANIE FEAR COMPETITION), I personally will make sure that the competition is there [OR ATLEAST TRY MY HARDEST TOO]. We all know the benefits of competition. My main focus is to bring in competition. Without competition we fighting a lost case. Judging by GV it will take some time before they open up the flood gates to the telecoms industry. But when that happens, I personally think that as a Broadband Activist group we should scurry as fast as we can, and put all our focus into bringing Competition in from angles, and as fast as possible. Prices will drop, service levels will increase and so will the speed.

And mark my words.. ISP's out there will not turn a blind eye to a website like this, and particullarly to the events of today. This is a milestone in SA's telecoms industry. Now we all need to take a big breath and follow through with waive after waive of attacks against anyone trying to hamper the growth of Broadband in this country.

PS: SHOW ME THE MONEY BABY!!!!!!

I will never forget that first WarDrive we did to test all the Sentech towers, it was so much fun.

The results from that is what broke the news about their open proxy's.

Can't we do the same with iBurst & Vodacom / MTN as well ?

What would it take to bring the entire Telkom infrastructure down for 10-minutes ?

No he didn't. A ruling will only be given in December. Until then the case is neither won nor lost and no precedent has been set. Of course the fact that he did not throw it out of court as having no merit leaves hope that he may rule in dotco's favour and that it could be worthwhile for other isp's to go the same route i.e. get a court stay of telkom's november price changes. Of course they all take the risk of losing in december and then having to pay all costs ...

True a ruling hasnt been made yet, and will only happen on the 5th of December. But remember that the court did take action to halt Telkoms pricing policy. If other ISP's follow the same suit, what you think is going to happen... The judge cannot rule them out of favour with regards to halting Telkoms pricing policy. The whole point of this exercise is to rally up ISP's to take on Telkom.

Either 1 of 2 things will happen.
The judge will rule their way and they'll reap the benefits. Telkom will look like even bigger idiots. Papi will have more then he can chew on his plate. Government will scramble, talk more sh*t in parliament. Pretty much it will stur up the industry. And if we can international media involved then it will make an even bigger dent in Telkoms immage.

Or

They'll loose, they'll have to fork out for the costs... The more ISP's there are then the less the cost will be. And things will stay the same. Pricing, ADSL Service, etc... Actually pricing will go up.

Now look at DotCo's case. For last 10 months.... SA Government has been trying to lower Telecoms costs. If the judge rules in Telkoms favour his pretty much shooting down Mr Mbeki's state to the nation address about lowering telecoms costs. Then the sh*t would hit the fan.

Its going to be very interesting!!!!!!!! I cant wait.... I am actually going to try and get SABC, ETV, CNN, BBC, anyone who i can at the court on the 5 of December. And you know what!!! I think we should all go protest outside the court aswell!!

It's a pity that the ramblings of a president are not actually law. It could be really useful in this situation.

I recon that if a lot of the small ISP's follow suit here, and LOOSE, the minister will say something else about what she looks like and smile from ear to ear.

Lets not forget who the enemy is.

Stoke I agree, but if DotCo loose the appeal, and if the media publication is put in a way that makes government looks bad, by e.g. using that mbeki comparison I made... It would put egg on governments face. Not to say that they already look like idiots. But it would dis-credit them even more.

IMO its worth a try. Its not like we got anything else to do. And everyone is complaining that we dont do anything. Atleast this is something and better then nothing. So lets all look at it with a positive spin, coz the ball is in our court, and with the right contacts, we can spin this to the media in the format we think is best. I.E. Anti-Telkom

I don't think that Telkom takes any cognisance of how they look as long as they can rip off.

What happens if dotco loses? As I see it the price hike of 1/11 will then be deemed as OK and no doubt they will be billed by telkom for the full amount for november in addition to costs. that could be a serious sum and a risk too big for many isp's to take.

we live in interesting times ...

but surely Telkom can't do that? I mean, the court has stopped them from forcing DotCo to implement the new billing - that's that. correct me if i'm wrong here, but Telkom can't then go and charge for a month that has had the "telkom price ban", if you will, in effect.

DotCo, a South African ISP, appealed to the Cape High Court to freeze Telkom’s plans to implement a new pay-per-gig billing system as of the 1st of November. This ruling however only applies to DotCo who made this urgent court application.

Judge Hlope ruled in favour of DotCo and granted a temporary order preventing Telkom from forcing DOTCO to abide by the billing system until the 5th of December when the court is expected to announce its final decision.

Me not agree/z with Q-Man - according to that wording, teklom have been forced to not force dotco to use the new billing system until 5 dec, after which they can force dotco to use the new billing system. The new billing system is defined as starting at 1 - nov - 2005.

I would like to congratulate DOTCO, Well done guys, I will be in contact with you re: Court Case and some support.

I would like to challage some other ISP's out there to come out and sign an document that we are all in agreement with DOTCO and further to this if you can lodge a complaint.

What must be noted is you will also get a reprive until 5 DEC as this is now a presedent,

Guys on MYADSL the more noise you make now. I will be contacting my lawyers RE: ADSL logging a comlaint.

Wicked let me know what you find relating to ur discussion with your lawyers.
And yes you are right... We need to make as much as noise as possible.
