NOTE TO ALL ISP's

As far as I can recall WebAfrica also said they were taking Telkom to court together with DotCo.

What happened WA?

WebAfrica is piggy backing DOTCO with the Section 53 ICASA complaint, not the court case. Reason being is the 2 agreements reached with Telkom are different(As far as I understand)

@WA, wamatt
What is the outcome of the section 53 or are you still waiting. Isn't DOTCO's Telkom agreement been made public now, if so please can you give us the link to that docet?

The problem with the other ISPs supporting DotCo in the way we'd all like them to is that many of them have agreements which differ slightly to the one signed by DotCo. The implications for DotCo should they lose on 5th December would be big without a doubt but for some other ISPs, there is a good chance they would be liable for back-billing from when the whole 30GB thing started.

That kind of cost would cripple almost all the ISPs. And you can bet your bottom dollar that any company as petulant as Telkom ("We'll stop giving you ADSL if you don't play nice") will wring all the cash they can out of any ISP that dares to stand against them.

They really can't risk their entire business on the chance that it might work.

If DotCo wins out, there will hopefully be a flood of applications by the other ISPs as a precedent WILL have been set.

Excuse my ignorance, but what did Sentech do that bothered the broadband community??

I'm not standing-up for them, I'm just concerned because I didn't hear or read anything about Sentech.

Please fill me in with the Sentech issues.. and what was done to correct them.

Thanks.

They sold 128, 256, 512 connections to ppl.
In the end they did not have the intl bandwidth to cope. They throtlled everyone down to dialup speeds but charged broadband rates. And to date its no where near the speeds they advertise. International that is. Although they dont have a cap... Trying d/l and you'll see that you dont need a cap.

Sorry i forgot to add the correcting bit...

Pretty much we exposed them to the media. Gave them a bad name. They lost half their user base in a week. Or something like that.
