Hey guys,

I am a little disappointed on this fine evening, I notice that my laptop produces such choppy sound now and then, when I play music. This happens when I do a speedtest, specifically when the web application does the upload test.

Here is a sound file of the choppy sound I was experiencing:

Direct Link to the sound (334kb in size): http://k007.kiwi6.com/hotlink/yoxog3ba22/Sound_clip_29.mp4

The Speedtest:

I do not know why this is happening, my motherboard had been replaced about 3 weeks ago, by a Dell Technician. Does anyone know what is causing the choppy sound??

The internet connection I am using is my 3G HSPA Modem (The Telkom D-LINK modem [forgot its model no]), and it is using Cell C's network, which gets about 1 - 10Mbps in my area. Running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

Thanks

Have you tried doing a load test while playing music to see if it does the same thing? Have you tried a different music app/browser?

I have tried playing music using another player (VLC) and tried the speedtest on Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, it gives me the same, but even worse.

EDIT: I think I may have seen the problem.

It seems like at the time of my speedtests, the Wi-Fi auto-connected, so I was connected with the 3G and the Wi-Fi network. When I disconnect one of the mentioned (Wi-Fi or 3G), and perform the speedtest, it does not give me any choppy sound

That is farking weird! I was going to suggest it might be an issue with read speed on the HDD, but that is strange.

When you have two active connections, Windows internal routing prefer to use WiFi/LAN connection over 3G and has apparently some driver problem too. There is nice program for meassuring latency which would pickup such delays in system drivers. http://www.thesycon.de/dpclat

Either avoid simultaneous connection, find other 3g and WiFi drivers, or as a workaround adjust metrics in your TCP/IP settings for 3G connection to send packets to 3G interface first.
