A friend of mine is looking for a notebook for about 10k. He's a gamer so he needs something that will be able to play modern games.

I was looking at the Lenovo from PC Zone for 8k :

i7 2630QM 2GHz
8GB Ram
750GB hdd
Radeon HD6570 1gb
The usual DVD wrtiter / gigabit lan / etc.

Can anyone suggest anything better? He probably won't mind going slightly over 10k if it's worth the extra dough.

Thanks!

take 2 can import the asus g53 for you 11.5k, though its the i5 version but the gtx 460m will laugh at the hd6570, of course the import takes some time :(

i5 sandybridge will still handle all of the games :)

notebook check says, laptop gets about 8.2k avg 3dmark 06, even my asus g51 with gtx 260m and core 2 duo gets about 11k , so ya would rather spend extra on the g53 or if he wants it now get the gigabyte with gt540m and i5, they around 8k i think.

The Asus laptop that Qwikslver suggested has a slightly better graphics card than the Lenovo from PCZone - see http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-540M.41715.0.html

The Lenovo most likely has only a 1366x768 resolution and a 1 year warranty, compared to the Asus laptop which has a resolution of 1920x1080 and a 2 year warranty.
When you're going for a gaming laptop with a high end graphics card, I would highly recommend that you go for one with a 2 year warranty at the very least, because I've seen too many people losing their laptops due to overheating after 1 year.

So ja, other than the screen resolution and the warranty, that Lenovo would make a great gaming laptop.

Awesome! Thanks a ton guys - I'll pass on the info to him and see what he thinks.

I'm pretty sure he won't be going for the Lenovo now though :p

I would suggest the ASUS N53 it it a great i7 with good graphics and the quality and warranty make it worthwhilealso has bang and olufsson sound which is a bonus
