Hi all,

My laptop requires DDR1 333, i would like to upgrade my RAM as I only have 256MB at the moment.

What will the best option be, PC int quoted me R450 for 1 GIG.

Must I stay with DDR1? Answer is yes I think,

But can i maybe use a higher FSB speed?

Thanks a mil! :)

That's a good price - possible make 100% certain that it is DDR1!

If you get DDR-400 it will auto clock down to DDR-333.

Thanks PostmanPot for the reply. :)

So rather buy new ram than search for secondhand laptop ram?

At R400 for a stick of 1GB DDR-333/400 I'd take the new stick.

In my experience, second-hand 1GB DDR-333/400 sticks are scarce, and probably of a similar price.

Okay great the laptop is running at 1.2 gig or something now, a big difference!

Just one more question, does it matter if the 1 GIG is in slot 1 or 2?

Doesn't make a difference on any platform. It will use the RAM in the first slot first and then use the RAM in the second slot. If the old RAM was slower than the new RAM, then the speed would be reduced to the lowest speed for all RAM anyway. The positive performance impact of 1GB extra RAM is greater than the performance loss of mixing the two moduels.

Of course if you were using Dual channel it would be different....

Does DDR2 have different notches? So he wouldn't be able to buy fmy netbook RAM?
