Nothing wrong with maths curriculum: minister

Unions. Not allowing proper standards and behavior to be enforced.

Ah, now I understand, When the pass rate goes up, for whatever reason, even those having nothing to do with actually passing, it is due to the Minister's interventions.

When the pass rate goes down it's because the lunners are too stupid.

Clear as a babies nappy, and filled with the same content.

To be fair, she's probably right. National does curriculum guidelines. Provinces do the implementation.

But the government's labourist policies mean the unions have a stranglehold on everyone.

The kids always suffer. As do the good teachers.

I know it's a minority view, but government should get out of education.

Are they educated enough to understand that?

Its funny how some schools don't have a problem.
Where there is accountability all seems ok.
Teachers object to clocking in at the useless schools where they have JOBS but do not give a damn about the kids.
Until this changes you will see terrible marks.

It's never the player's fault when Bafana Bafana loses, they just keep changing the coach. Guess they are applying the same principle here as with the National soccer team?

Are those delightfuls in red T shirts dancing about for extra pay teachers ???
Can someone quantify the absentee figures each day of teachers in the New SA ?

No because the unions protested against attendance recording mechanisms

So the minister is effectively saying that it's not because her department is responsible for teachers being employed that cannot actually pass exams on the subjects that they are being paid to teach, it must always be someone else's fault entirely (like the teachers and the pupils but never government).

“The curriculum is in no way the problem. It lies with the teachers and the pupils,” Norkem Park High teacher Tiyiko Mathe was quoted as saying.

And the parents carry no responsibility? Good thing.

“There is nothing wrong with the curriculum. It is how the subject is taught. We need to urgently solve this problem before the start of the new school year,” she said at an emergency conference of teachers in Midrand on Friday, convened by Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi.

Let's just agree right now that there is no way this will happen...

Because:

1. The teachers have been in holiday mode for the past 2 weeks
2. Government goes into recess & will only emerge when they absolutely have to
3. There is no political will.
4. There is no one willing to be the champion who cracks whip and kicks butt.

The best I can do is be intimately involved with my children and do everything in my might to get them through with the best results possible.

when will parents realize that it's their responsibility to teach their kids and not the schools'?
When I do not have to work my butt off to make a living and pay school fees. Seriously, parents only have so much time available and some of us try our best, but education is the responsibility of the government.

Why not use technology to get the best teachers to a much as possible students out there. Put lectures on DVD's, publish it on google or distribute it freely through libraries and bookshops.
But then some people are going to cry for free TV's and DVD players as well.
