Nothing wrong with maths curriculum: minister

I'm gonna teach Math and English in a few years once I qualify. Let's hope I don't go into sleep mode...

When I do not have to work my butt off to make a living and pay school fees. Seriously, parents only have so much time available and some of us try our best, but education is the responsibility of the government.

Why not use technology to get the best teachers to a much as possible students out there. Put lectures on DVD's, publish it on google or distribute it freely through libraries and bookshops.
But then some people are going to cry for free TV's and DVD players as well.

No, education is the responsibility of the parent. You can outsource some of that responsibility to the school, but at the end of the day it's up to you to make sure your kid attends school, does homework, studies, prepares, AND has the right attitude.

+100000000!!!!!!

Ultimately, there is only so much we can do as teachers, we can scold, shout fight with the kids, but when it comes to certain things, such as enforcing discipline and making sure learners do homework regularly, our hands are tied. Yes it is our responsibility to educate the learners, and I know me and my colleagues who try our utmost best, even having sleepless nights preparing extra curricular to make sure that learners always have a surplus of resources available to them. BUT it is up to the parents to ensure that homework is thoroughly done, we can only teach so much in the limited time we have and a large portion of that time is spent on discipline. In a perfect world, if learners came into class, sat down took out their books and listened when I spoke, I promise you that the results would not be as dismal as what it is now. So please parents.... make sure that it is not your child who disrupts the class and robs others of their right to learn.

I guess you're right. Your kids education or future doesn't depend on you. Just pay someone else a bit more and maybe they'll care about your family more than you.

Mind if I ask where you are going to be doing this and which qualification?

UNISA, B.Ed (ISP) In 2nd year now and need to do Afrikaans to 2nd year level and I am having difficulties with that. Daardie module is baie moeilik!
