So the techie came to the house on monday. He showed me the map and tower locations and explained that the disconnections were caused because the tower I was connected to PN320, was 3KM away, and even though it was the best overall signal (RSSI 57) and lowest interfearance (Ec/Io < 1.2), it is "too far away from optimal distance" even though it is the only tower in LOS (Line of Sight)

He was polite and he understood our situation, and he gave me advice to point to the nearest tower at Olivedale Clinic rather (RSSI 79 Ec/Io 2-4) as it is within "optimal distance". Even though the signal quality is much worse, and the DRC rate is much lower, it should work "better", as it is not too overloaded.

So I have been trying it out since monday..

SURPRISE

IT'S EVEN WORSE THAN PN320!!!!

I'm not even going to bother taking a screenshot, because the ping command does not even start as it cannot even reach the servers I try to ping. So no, tower distance is not the issue.

But what really grates me, is the fact that some people have been contacted to be trailees on the WiMax. I have not heard a word.

Nice one Neotel. Thats 3 for 3.

As per the other thread, the roll out is taking place over 3 months, so it'll happen.

your fail for using NeoFail, glad i never went with them

Oh stuff it. no use arguing anymore on my Neotels Consumer network setup is the pitts

By the time their network is rolled out nobody will be around to play with it any more. I plan on getting rid of my Neohel within the next 6 months. I want ADSL. NeoFlex is an expensive ripoff and much too inconsistent for my needs.

Had neotel for 2 years and now i've had adsl for 3 months. No competition - always on, always connected.

seriously you live in sandton ,there is no excuse not to get an adsl line and use the neofail box as a paperweight

Thats exactly what I tell Telkom. They come to my house, laugh, and leave. Dont ask me why both my neighbors have 8meg lines, and I cannot get a phone line.
