Now we're talking

Now we need ICASA to sort out inter connectivity charges. I wonder how much inter connectivity actually costs the operators?

A good question, and one that is on everyone's mind. Interconnect Rates are not regulated, so the operators set a price between themselves. The problem with that is they cannot offer cheaper interconnect rates to say for example a USAL voip company (low cost operator) since the IC agreements stipulate that all operators receive the same treatment... ICASA has been asked to step in, but it will still be along time before we see IC rates come down to 20cents or 40 cents (currently around R1.25) ... Dominic any comments? :)

Altech CEO Craig Venter was naturally pleased that, in hindsight, the company had the backbone to stand up to Government and the regulator. "The liberalisation process has been substantially speeded up by this ruling," he said following the judgment.

I think I speak for everybody on this forum when I will say : You, Sir, have our eternal gratitude for having the balls to stand up and do something about the sad state of affairs.

Thank you very much for doing so, and persisting with it.

Regards

Yeah. Maybe we should ask rpm to use the community fund for September to buy Mr Venter a bottle of Blue.

Actually it is regulated. Before cellc showed up it was quite low. Can't remember the amount. But after cellc showed up mtn and vodacom asked icasa to push it up to R1.50.
