Everything stable until just a little earlier this afternoon. Then all of a sudden all three LEDs light up on my Novatel card, followed by the crash of the dash (CoD).

Remove card, reboot laptop, re-insert card: Just sits there - Not Connected, Acquiring.

Tried GPRS only, but even though it locks onto the network, I can't get access or data throughput - it stays up for a couple of seconds, and then comes back with "port disconnected" again.

So I put the card in my trusty desktop, just to be sure it isn't a hardware problem. And same thing there. So this is *again* a Vodacom problem. And here I am, on dial-up again.

Please tell me this will be sorted out soon. And please tell me Vodacom will be implementing its own dial-up server, so I can stop paying for two ISPs. Well, one ISP since Vodacom gives me more stress than service.

Is anybody else having this problem? Or should I take the fact that no-one has posted this yet as a sign that everybody is off air :p

I am SOOOOOOOO tired of struggling with this ****e!

I've got a Novatel card and have been online all day (since 8am). Haven't experienced any problems. I even had a 50MB download going most of the afternoon. Have no idea what's happening with your card. Where are you in SA?

Johannesburg - West Rand (Allen's Nek).

Can't tell the Cell ID on my Nokia 8800, as it now only says (ironically) "3G Enabled". Will keep fiddling with things until something either breaks, or I get too tired to try!

LoL. Maybe it was just the signal in your area. I've had my card since the beginning of the month and I've had no problems to speak of. So maybe, by the looks of things, I'm one of the lucky ones. But then again, I might be talking too soon. :)

If it was a network problem, it probably was local to your area. I worked all weekend with an average throughput of >300Kb/s but I'm in the Cape.

If you PM me your physical address and the time you lost the connection, I can check up if there was a problem.

Okay, I just spoke to a technician at 155 again - when I phoned yesterday, all they had me do was change profiles and create a new profile (like I haven't tried it myself).

Anyway, this guy was very helpful and confirmed that there has been a problem in my area since yesterday at about 15:45. They're still working on it, and things should get better sometime in the future. He didn't want to commit to any timings of when things should be fine again, but intimated that I may be lucky enough to get 3G for Christmas! Wheeeee!

Sorry for being such a satirical bastard, but I haven't been having the best 3G time lately.

My time has come.... *sigh*. My Novatel card had PMS this morning and crashed the card, dash and my pc. It took three restarts to come right and then when it finally connected, DUmeter showed consistant bits of data being d/l. This i find disconcerting as I am behind a firewall and I only allow the minimum of traffic, so I did a netstat and I apparently was d/l from unknown.level3.net which I traced to Denver in the states.....
Anyway, after fighting a little bit, It's working now and not downloading from Area 51.

Fanksh for the reply. That I do not know. It didn't seem to come from any app. There was no data uploading so i reckon no app was requesting data. It was like aliens had taken over my 3g conn. I'm using sygate firewall which IMHO is the best. It stopped after a while though. Im busy doing a full Ad-Aware scan and it hasn't found anything yet.

It would have been an app on your system. We block external scanning, so something on your PC opened up the socket.

Have a look at Netlimiter. It will report all the apps on your PC and how much data they're transmitting or receiving, kinda like a GUI Netstats.

You can also use Netlimiter to put a cap on allowed bandwidth per app, a great feature.

Lastly, don't trust any one spyware scanner, they often miss something. Use 2 or 3 and you'll find one will pick up something another one missed.

Hmm. I will try Netlimiter but i'll have to wait for it to maybe happen again. Is external scanning blocked if I'm using the internetvpn APN?
