Hi guys,

This is very weird. Basically I ordered my ADSL and the technician didn't show up when he said he would (big surprise) so after he didn't pitch and the strike started I had my order changed to a Self-installation order.

Today I used Telkom's guest account details and entered it into my ADSL modem and it worked! I haven't received a call from anyone at Telkom to say that I can go ahead with the installation or anything but I though it's my lucky day. Now it turns out you have to go to the ADSL verification page and verify your installation. I went there (using my modem) and tried to verify it and it said "your DN number and Order number is not recognised".

According to Telkom, obviously my physical line is installed correctly (hence that's why I can surf to the telkom website using my ADSL modem - duh) but now it needs to be "activated" on their side, otherwise I won't be able to browse anything else except the telkom website.

How long do you think THAT's gonna take?? So the physical part is done at the exchange side and my installation obviously works, so now it's only up to telkom to "activate" my line. I freaking hate them all!

Have you tried a valid isp username/password -I can't see why it will not work.

Well, I "bit" the preverbial bullet and signed up for a 5GB WebAfrica account today. I'll enter that and use it on my modem tonight when I get home to see if it works. Apparently, if it's not "activated" on telkom's side it means that you'll be restricted to the Telkom website...eventhough your physical connection and everything else is okay.

Just look at it on the bright side.

Imagine how much fun you can have surfing Telkom's web site the whole night. :D

Ok you are nearly there. Now first tel me if you are in the Gauteng region, if you are I will PM some advice who to call and what to do. All this now means the Telkom Tech have to change one link in the exchange if they have a port ready and they have a tech to send! Mine took two bussiness days from this point with a weekend inbetween (5DAYS) as the tech just did not manage to get to the exchange from the Thurday afternoon to Teusday Morning order was placed on the Wednesday evening.

Hi there....nope it seems that everything was sorted out! lol.....I input my details for my WebAfrica account and it worked like a charm. It seems the verification page is only for self-install users (even though I am supposed to be one), you don't NEED to do it apparently hehehe :) thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it a lot.

Good now ONE LAST THING! Check the next Telephone account, Keep all the info you have together, like order no's , names, etc, as they "will"? charge you for installation and then you have to call, lodge a dispute and then they will decide to pay it back. I have a few contacts on that too when it comes to it! I am waiting for my new account to confirm whether I payed for my self install!

Nope you have to do it! and you did! even when it failed as there is some interaction when you do the self verification, even when it fails, that makes them get a message to say you are ready and waiting apparently so they can take action. That was how it was explained to me in simple terms. I think some exchanges change or switch over on auto and on others like mine a tech had to change the link manually. So self install should be available everywhere Telkom just do not want to loose the freeby they charge!

Hey Pupa,

I spoke to a very nice lady in PTA and she also said because I didn't successfully do the "verification" on the web page it WILL bill me for the installation but she said she made an extra big note on the ref that I was NOT to be billed. She also said if I get billed I should only tell them to look at the ref and it will be sorted out :) You are 100% correct though.
