Hi ,

I think that V3G may find this interesting -- IF he knows about NTRIP

Networked Transport of RTCM via Internet Protocol (NTRIP)

This is the hot new thing for Surveyors and GIS professionals -- who are all burning up lots of new airtime using this technology which requires an in the field connection to the Internet -- but can provide sub CENTIMETRE accuracy

Pity that no-one from TRIGNET ( Dept of Land Affairs ) thought to drop V3G a little mail asking about co-operation and possible SYMBIOSIS ( The technologies , network layout , and infrastructure seem to be made for each other )

Anyway be that as it may -- I am looking for a small mobile device that incorporates HSDPA wireless modem PLUS Bluetooth 2 OR 802.11g device to act as a dedicated NTRIP connection to the Internet for DATA only. Does not have to be fancy it just has to do one job and do it well. MOst GPSr ROVERS have BT and 802.11g built in -- just NOT a mobile Internet connection.

Yes yes I know -- everyone uses their mobile handset -- Sies a phone is a PHONE and the good ones cost more than an arm and a leg. Still a good excuse when the boss phones you -- Sorry boss the phone was connected to the GPSr .............

V3G what about a special SIM and deal for all the poor surveyors and engineers out there trying to keep the country together ? ( The field with the greatest shortage of skilled professionals )
