Nuclear will face thorough and transparent tender process - Treasury

The 9 600 MW nuclear energy new build programme will only proceed after a “thorough and transparent tender process”, according to Treasury’s budget review.

Following on from President Jacob Zuma’ State of the Nation address this month, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s budget review said “government will only expand such capacity at a scale and pace that is affordable”.

What would the fallout radius be if a nuclear plant was to meltdown?

These people can barely read, now they are going to be overseeing a nuclear plant. Want to know how far I need to move.

Funds were reprioritized to appoint a transactional advisor to assist the DoE
If the Department have to get help from advisors to do their work what does it say about the skills available in the Department?

Just like the thorough and transparent toll gate saga tender process

she faced stiff resistance from her own party, the African National Congress
How transparent will the process be when a Minister and her party doesn't even see eye to eye?

That would be the saviour for this country, just be repopulated in 10 thousand years?

Looks at Koeberg. Nope, no meltdown or fallout yet.

There is also a lot of fail safes around nuclear plants, bar heavy natural disasters, and if I remember correctly inspections by overseas agencies.

When was koeberg built and by who?

You mean the one that that they started constructing in 1976 and was commissioned in 1984 and still works.

Most things worked better back then :p

I strongly disagree with your contention.
Over here in the real world, actual oversight is not happening, and there are issues.

“At the end of last year, during the budget review process, the DoE failed to account for Necsa (SA Nuclear Energy Corporation), which did not report and asked to be exempt from reporting to parliament.”
Necsa has major liabilities for its failure to address nuclear contamination,” she said. “There is no information on the extent of the contamination, the amount of the liability and the timeline to fix this. Now Necsa is saying that the government must pay and that it is not liable.

Ok, maybe not meltdown, but is seems highly likely contamination. :o

Then I agree, probably not a good idea with current powers in place to have nuclear.
