I haven't been on this forum very long. Neither have I posted much. Been using it more to find alternative and better solutions. But I come to 1 hick-up with this whole situation.

Which is better, nukecap or freedsl? I guess its bad of me to put them together, but from a consumer's point of view, surely I have the right to compare?

I mean, I have spoken with Clipse, the operator of nukecap, and he says the freedsl service is great, but is only going to get worse? I understand the concept of the more users, the less available speed. But surely this can't be completely true. I mean, traffic regulation and prioritization insures guaranteed and optimized connections and downloads while eliminating the possibility to consume or use up the entire service with only one user.

And at the sametime my small brain says to be vise-versa. Nukecap surely is also affected by the same principal that more users = less available bandwdith?

Which then says to me both services will get progressively worse the more users they take on surely? Its like putting a 1 lane highway in place of the N1 in JHB.

My question is, what guarantees do we have from the service providers that this will not affect thier guarantee of available bandwidth.

I mean, what have people to say about the nukecap and freedsl service. Those that have used it?

well clipse isnt gonna tell you to sign with freedsl, no point asking uunet what they think of ayce they wont say great things. why dont you go with a company like axxess you get 10 gig for 399?

why are you wanting freedsl or nukecap?

also how many k/s are they saying you will get from nukecap because ive heard its like 1-2k/s depending how many ppl are online at that time and what they are downloading

Cause I'm not a big downloader or leecher, but use the internet for educational purposes. No point in me paying R399 for 10gig, when I'll only use like 5gig.

But I suppose my statement here is not just for me but for everyone else reading.

I'm not to sure about nukecap. With FreeDSL, they say 5KB/s and upwards. 5KB being a minimum. Also, some people on freedsl report anything from 10KB up to 30KB.

how much a month are they?

They R150 setup fee and R100 per month, on a 30 day contract.

is this the ppl on their website or ppl you chat with?

Nope, these are the clients themselves that state those speeds. FreeDSL support state "a minimum of 5KB/s. More can be expected".

well that sounds really good if you ask me but i think if got more than 5k/s that would be alot but go for it and see.

but remember you get what you pay for but its only 150 bucks plus another 100 you could end up wasting.

sign and see i rate

I'm already signed on and using FreeDSL, and my opinion is its amazing, yet Clipse gets me thinking about the fact that the more users sign-up with FreeDSL, the worse the service becomes...

educational purposes? what you browse dodgy porn sites? aaaah, makes sense i suppose:P

he is more than likely right

how many a k/s u gettin?
Currently downloading at 15KB/s and surfing speed is instant. Most sites, like shockwave.com, open up in 5 seconds.

I have applied for a test account with nukecap, just to see what that service can offer.

But my argument is, surely service providers such as nukecap and freedsl realize that their service may be hampered with the more users that join, and therefore insure that their clients remain happy and get the bandwidth they have gotten use to.

your paying 100 bucks they only buy a certain amount and divide that by the users and as users grow your connection is slow hehe

if you want 30-50 k/s you must alot more

thats why nukecap is so slow

Yes they do, welcome to South African broadband :)

This is a very interesting read. I guess what I state here will most likely be considered bias, or "selling tactic", but this is basically the FreeDSL service:

The service intention is not a profitable margin. The purpose of launching the service was to provide an escape to those users that need internet access after their 3GIG cap, but do not require the full speed of the service.

First note about the FreeDSL service is, its a best-effort service as it relies on the ADSL cloud for clients to access it. Our backbone runs off a diginet link. As everyone knows, diginet is a guaranteed, always on service. From ourside, we can guarantee an internet connection, and a fast one at that.

The only thing we can't guarantee is the ADSL link that gets you on the FreeDSL Network. Should the ADSL go down, we regret to inform that the Proxy goes down. However future expansions will allow ADSL users to access the proxy directly from the diginet link, using the ADSL link purely for authentication only.

The reason for your internet speed UltraViolet, is we have a well-designed network as well as traffic control regulation. We can not guarantee you 15KB and up, however we also don't say you won't get that. We guarantee the client a minimum of 5KB. This is a current setup. Hopefully in the next 2-3 months, we'll be able to guarantee you 10KB and upwards.

Also, the reason for the instant websites is, we run a 1TB proxy cache server. This enables us to offer the client a speedy and fast surfing experience.

We currently have available to us, 768KB worth of bandwidth, which is over a diginet link. This will be getting upgraded in the next month to 1024KB. We are able to cator or up to 100 users easily.

Hope this helps.
Thanks

so after you sign your 100th client you will stop signing ppl?
Nope. by the 75th user we'll look at putting in an additional amount of bandwidth.

hi Ultraviolet

I dont understand your reluctance to pay R399 for the Axxess 10gig cap, as if u add the basic 3gig charge - R249 - that Telkom would charge (agreed that they are some cheaper options emerging) and add the R120/R100 for nukecap/freedsl, u still get in the region of R350 anyways.
And for 50 bucks more, I would take the 10gig at ADSL speeds.

FreeDSL - Shaped ADSL without the restrictions

you should work for telkom or iburst advertising :) thats like saying "very fast car...without and engine"
