Hi guys,

Starting monday I noticed the top right side of my right foot was numb when I stood up. It seems to have gotten a little worse lately and has spread to the whole of the top of my foot.

Should I be worried? Like is it just a nerve that's been pinched, or perhaps something more sinister kicking in?

Could be a pinched nerve, could be Multiple sclerosis.. have it checked.

Would help if you describe the numbness a bit more. If you lightly touch the skin does the sensation feel vaguely pain-like?

Pinched nerve & MS are both somewhat unlikely imo (MS statistically, pinched nerve b/c of location). I'd agree with mad though...rather not take chances with the nervous system....go see a doc. He'll probably give you a cortisone treatment of some kind.

Oh and as usual I have no clue what I'm talking about when it comes to medical matters. ;)

I have seen this in many of my patients in the past...
There is no easy way to say this and I'm sorry...but..
you have AIDS.

You should get diagnosed immediately and start on ARV's as soon as possible.

And waaaayyyy out of left field!!!!! :erm:

Dude - we all know that Scotty's a 19yr old virgin - you can't get AIDS from your hand?!

Seriously though, just to put your mind at ease Scotty - visit a Doc and have it checked out.

it's probably aids and cancer (that's what webmd says anyway)

and you can contract aids in many other ways, you don't have to butt **** a guy to get it... so read up on your aids pamphlets there shakebutnobake :p

Could be Gout, get to a doc man ....

Gout often starts with numbness or tingling (Pins and Needles). The sensation cannot always be tied down to a specific area: e.g. the foot

Damn okes, some seriously varying replies here :p .

Anyway, the numbness is more of a loss of feeling that's forming. Like I can still feel a pinch, it's just that if I were lightly touch the foot, I wouldn't feel it.

I thought it might be to do with sitting for long periods of time as I'm coding a crap load lately, and also don't walk around Uni as much as I would.

I think I'll go to the doctor then. I was merely just wondering if it was something I should get checked out, or if it was something common.

So how is the new carbon fibre prosthesis, are you walking better now?

:D

If it starts to spread get to a doc. Watched a show about a guy who got numbness in his foot at work which spread until everything below his waste was numb. Turned out to be a auto immune disease attacking nerves in his spine. Took months for him to manage to walk again. Very nasty
