Nutz over Nokia...

Exactly. The Google Play store also needs some cleaning out. It's mostly full of useless junk, and for every app there's a thousand others that do the same thing.

Not defending anyone but I do find it funny when he goes on like this in one thread and then go on and say:

I can see why someone who has been using Android or iOS could easily become frustrated.

As for me, I'm moving from Symbian so I think Windows Store is pretty okay.

Yes there is a lot of duplicates in other OS's but with those come choice,

Example: if you do not like flashlight-x on Windows Phone you are stuffed unless you write your own, but
when you get to say iOS and Android you know there will be another maybe more suited to your taste.

Not to mention some key apps that is still lacking, for example a proper USSD live tile app to check your pay as you go balance.
Will they come, well I would hope so, its just a but frustrating at the start because of this lack of apps and choice.

The point I was making is that we shouldn't be having this discussion really because apps are just a small part of the smartphone equation, albeit a significant one. No doubt.

But, if we discount WP on apps alone we are really just lying to ourselves about what makes a smartphone attractive to most users. WP is actually starting to become pretty healthy too app-wise.

Not really, if it wasn't for the apps we would all still be using dumb or feature phones.

It is a good point that you make.

But, I think you missed the update to my post which was saved at the same time as you were posting your post.

I do acknowledge the fact that apps do indeed make smartphone smartphones. However, I think the amount of importance that we place on the apps is what differs between us. I am of the arguement that apps are really overrated hype, of course the Apple marketing machine went into over drive on this one (followed quickly by Googles) as they were the first to establish this new paradigm in mobile telephony.

Its is more hype than what value it really has on our personal lives. But, even that statement too is subjective. Ultimately, apps are as important as you want to make the in your life. And in my life, they simply are not that important. Except WhatsApp of course.

So, the Surface ad soundtrack is now my ringtone on my Nokia.
