Vista is confusing me :( I installed vista ultimate and then the latest nvidia nforce drivers from their site but I left the graphics drivers as the Vista default for nvidia.

I then ran a performance test in an old version of CS source where there was no HDR, In XP I got 109fps & then in vista w.o the latest nvidia graphics drivers i got 139fps, I then downloaded the drivers and installed them & then reran the test and now the frames are down to 108fps.

Why are the drivers so cruddy? or am i missing something here?

nVidia's Vista drivers are currently extremely bugged. nVidia is blaming the whole mess on the way Vista processes graphics, and claims that they are speedily trying to correct the drivers.

One has to wonder why they didn't correct the drivers while they had the change during the Vista Beta releases.

All we can do is wait.

NV have had 6 years to perfect drivers for XP but only 5months to do the same for Vista. If the Vista drivers that came with the OS were good enough, why'd you change them? :/

Either way GF6 is not going to receive any performance boost from Vista with any driver set other than to bring the cards as close to XP performance as possible.
Priority now is GF8 performance and GF7 for compatibility.

Well my 1st thought was that the Nvidia drivers would have been improved a lot since Vista got released so I was expecting them to be better than the ones that came with Vista, I tried to uninstall the drivers and then redid the test & now it only gets 108fps instead of the 1st time where it got 139fps... I'm starting to wonder about Vista...

Wait a while before going over to Vista if you're a serious gamer. The NVIDIA drivers are extremely buggy.

vista is all good for a change but for gaming stick to xp as their is no advantage to vista for gamers at present

apart from annoying the crap outta us with vista :)

shouldnt have 1k on vista yet o well would have had to eventually

Um no, a number of games are much faster on vista than in xp so I can say there's an advantage ;) Ctrl-Tab always works and no game kicks itself in the teeth during the process

So far I've tried TM Nations & CS source(the original :P ) & both are faster on XP but i'll admit the drivers for vista are getting better
