OK...I don't really know how to explain this well so bare with me..

The Problem: Usually my games run fine etc..but on random i find my games to stutter/jerk on video (nvidia, microsoft, game intro videos etc.) which is quite annoying. As soon as this happens I can see it affecting most of my games, even old ones like Prince of Persia SOT. I can also see it doing the same in programs like Realplayer. Even if I open CloneDVD and just click on the sheep to see the version I notice the stutter effect in movement. All is then resolved by a simple and annoying restart.

I don't really know what the hell can be causing this.

Specs:
AMD 3600 X2
1GB DDR 2 800 (2 x 512Mb DDR800 Trancend)
320GB WD SATA
Gainward 7600GT PCIE
Gigabyte GA-M55S-S3 Motherboard

This is what I've done so far

1.) I don't use onboard sound - Creative Audigy
2.) Latest bios
3.) Latest VGA Drivers
4.) Latest Chipset Drivers
5.) Reinstall OS
6.) Disabled all background apps

Dear customer:

By performing the following troubleshoot steps may resolve the problem you
have experienced:

Remove all existing interface(AGP, PCI) cards in the system other than the
video card.

Uninstall current video card driver in add or remove program in control
panel. Use a driver cleaner software (which is available on:
http://www.drivercleaner.net ) afterwards. Restart computer in windows safe
mode, reinstall video card driver.

Update motherboard BIOS and chipset driver. If update is not available,
reinstall motherboard chipset drive(including AGP or PCI-E driver depending
on model).

Fastwrite should be disabled in BIOS.

Ensure system power supply meets the requirement.

We have users reported that beta drivers would provide solution to the
problems which some experienced. For beta drivers, please log on to:
www.guru3d.com.

Download SIS SANDRA LITE 2005 from: http://www.download.com
After you install this software, open it and double-click on "environment
monitor wizard", run a game for 1 minute and then exit the game, Check on
the 3rd diagram if the power supply voltage(12V) goes off 1-3.

Sincerely,

Seems like the best fix so far in that thread ;)

Your GPU (the chip on your graphics card) is having heat problems. If you buy a cheap brand, say Sparkle, it won't have the heat sinks of a BFG. Mine does the same when it reaches 70C. Silicon should never be hotter than 60C so I hope my card will last as long till the time I can afford a new PC.

As it is winter take this advice, put the PC outside, let it become cold, open the windows of the coldest room in your house and boot the PC in there once everything has frozen over. If your card works better it is heating problems.

The other day I booted my PC, CPU fans didn't start up, PC ran a while before it hit 30C. heh. It was -11 and I got home from a trip.

Nope, it's not a temp thing...GPU is ice cold...it's a software problem

Yip, it is definitely software ;) Let me know if that post I posted works.

I don't exactly know what you mean by stutter but take my example:

I have future pinball. It works hundreds :)

Funny thing though is when I play something else for a while on my PC and then decide to pass time and load up a Fpinball table the ball keeps jumping hectically. Stuttering as you say :)

I have to reboot my machine for this to go away. I did notice that enabling VSYNC sometimes made it go away, so Im guessing the problem you are having may be related to VSYNC. Different GFX drivers don't seem to help so I expect maybe only a patch of sorts would resolve this.

This post is just fyi :) I havent fixed my problem either and I just live with it....I dont even know if it is similar to your problem :p

Also google and install dual core fix for XP if you have a dual core cpu and XP and have not done so already

I don't exactly know what you mean by stutter

Well it's kinda difficult to explain the stutter/jag/spastic thing.. But it only happens intermittently, and when it does it affects all the games, realplayer videos, emulation, even just using the menus in CloneDVD... it's like the video/game/motion is trying to move to fast or to slow randomly and the only way to resolve is by restarting the machine

Also google and install dual core fix for XP if you have a dual core cpu and XP and have not done so already

Currently trying the AMD Dual Core Optimizer...will keep you guys informed
