If the conversion of price to Rand was exactly the exchange rate without all the markups - it would be in my wheelhouse. However, we all know it's not. So just another pipe dream.

Good old days when a mid range video card was affordable is gone it seems.
Going have to wait for the Vanilla RTX 3050 which by the looks of it will MSRP at $250 and will eventually sell for R5,999 once the card is widely available.

Yup back in the day you could get a decent mid to high for like R2k
Nine years ago I bought my 570 for R3500.

Three years ago I bought my 1070 for R6000 (just as mining was on the rise so it was 'inflated' by about R1000 at the time).

Now suddenly xx70 cards are double that amount. Warrapen?

it honestly looks like our local distributors are buying their GPU stock off the shelf, importing it and then adding their markup.

Yeah, I think I got out of the PC rat race just in time. There's no way I would be able to afford to build up another one with the way PC prices are going.

But it's bad even overseas. My Amazon basket of parts was around US$1000 three weeks ago. Just a few items that I have my eyes on to gauge the market. I logged on this morning and the basket is reflecting as US$1916. The 5700XT alone has shot up to US$912, which is absolutely mental.

GPU prices are insane and what's worse is that people are paying those prices so the high prices are likely to be around for a while longer :(

It is not the right time to be buying parts. Pandemic, holiday season.

Wait for Q2 2021, it should be a lot better.

Nope I picked mine up for R7499 from Wootware, right now they are expensive as it seems to only be the pricier options left.

Dude in June 2019 I picked up an RX580 for R1400, I sold it one year later for R2k and it easily sold for that price. Now I could've made a bit more off of it.

i am surmise you are talking about the 2060 for 7499? not the 3070 for 7499?
