vodacon making it confusing as usually for their cash strapped customers.

I'd much rather support MTN and CellC before I waste money on Vodacon.
Their unwillingness to implement a type of hard capping like CellC makes their intent clear to me. They want to rape you with out of bundle charges. Take care whoever signs up with these "promotions"

Good riddance to vodacrap

There's actually no one you can rely fully on, Tweak.

I jumped from Vodacom to Cell C after almost 4 years because of the degrading performance. The last few weeks Cell C had zero throughput - so I jumped back to Vodacom to find performance exceptional with 5mbps downloads etc

I got a larger data package and bolted on a bundle today as I figured this would be my connection. However tonight I got 1/10th of what I got the last few weeks.

One thing I can say is that Vodacom never really left me internetless as Cell C had :/ It was just very, very slow when it went 'down'

Can't say the same thing. Vodacom has left me internetless of several occasions. Try to connect but simply hangs then after hours and couple dozen tries finally does only for no data to go through. Or for that to happen while using it in the middle of a download and then having to reconnect before it works, if it reconnects at all like before. Sometimes have to plug the modem out and back in again which I had to do so many times the plug is now worn out. If it works it's usually slow.

All the problems people complain about on Cell C but fits Vodacom to a tee in my case. Then again Cell C is very fast for some people so will never know.

People at my work are not happy with Vodacon. I've experienced that the speed is allright for downloads only, but gaming etc its pathetic.

Their unwillingness to hard cap you, and their unstable gprs / edge which you fail-back on means that you'll not have a safe nor reliable service, we mainly use it as a back up incase our DSL goes down at work, and then we PRAY that we get a HSDPA signal.

I know about the whole unplugging and plugging issue with Vodacom. Had a 1GB pm contract for R349 pm for 2 years which ended in May last year. Connection would just die at times and I had to unplug the E220 modem and restart the software over and over again to reconnect.

For games like HoN/DotA/SC2 it's fine, but I don't think it's sufficient for serious FPS gamers, since it jumps from 100-160 whereas. You need 40-100 for FPS.

Wait... you can play online games with the Vodacom connection? does anybody know of a fairly low-spec online game I can test CellC with? I have a low spec laptop which I would like to use to play the game.

Maybe they have realised that their OOB rate is way too low and have tripled it to match the competition?

Could well be. They're not keeping to our collusion arrangement. We agreed to match their R149, if they match our OOB. :D

(and before marine1 have multiple orgasms, I'm joking )

Hold on! http://www.cellc.co.za/internet/page/data-products/usb-speed-stick-promotion
To recharge for voice calls/SMS/MMS or data in excess of the included 2GB/5GB, the usual Cell C process applies: You must load pre-paid airtime, which is subject to the "all day" prepaid tariff.
So unlike Vodacom it's actually hardcapped. Guess everybody's privates are safe except for Jannie and Occie's. :p Want me to tell you what the guillotine was actually made for?

You guys are never happy. Free is still too expensive. :)
WRONG!!! I was happy until Vodacom took away the free email usage.

From the link you posted:

OUT-OF-BUNDLE DATA USAGE
• Once you've used up your bundle, the out-of-bundle tariff of R 0.39/MB will apply.

Where do you see it's hard-capped? Just like Vodacom's pre-paid products, it'll eat up whatever balance you have until you've got no money left. Then it just stops. Not really hardcapping. (I know, proper hardcapping's been a request on VC's pre-paid as well. Cue morks and ginggs ;))

OK, I'll bite. Explain this free e-mail issue and I'll check it out.

Key phrase. ;) Unless you make the effort of loading airtime it won't. Vodacom will charge you even after your account limit is reached in some cases. Can't compare prepaid because you guys don't have it prepaid.

I did, over a month ago. Vodacom4me was free. Vodamail.co.za isn't. End of story. Moving to Cell C

Humour me and explain again. What are you paying for now, you did not pay for previously? Was the previous site zero-rated? I.e. did you not pay for the data you downloaded (like attachments)?

If you are moving over why are you still here complaining about it?

You must be the only person who noticed that Vodamail was zero rated. Not even Antonf, who would beat Trevor in a hawk-eye stare down, picked up on it. If this was the case I'm pretty sure it was never advertised as a feature nor was it intentional. So well done on scoring some free Geebees, the loophole is now plugged.

I also wondered why our resident 'vodacom.co.za quality controller' (aka Antonf :)) did not mention this before.

It does beg the question what bobby23 is doing with his mail account that it's making a substantial difference to have zero-rated e-mail. I hope he's not spamming. :D

In essence, I can't see a major problem with the concept (of zero-rating), but need to check up on abuse numbers.

In the past, we often launched services for free or at a capped rate and soon abuse gets to a level that you either have to stop it or start charging for it.

For example, there are people that use "Call Me" as a free form of communication. Just think how cumbersome it must be, 1 call-me is 'yes', two call-me's is 'no', or something like that.

The free SMS service on the portal is another example, as is Blackberry, BTW.

Always a few that stuff it up for everybody else.

Bank charges are generally bundled into one amount for deduction at the end/beginning of the month.

/off topic

I only get charge a constant amount every month.
