Is it even worth buying Oblivion with my 6600GT?

Some forums say it'll run @ medium and others say not a chance .....

Forumite feedback?

PS. The screenies look absoloutely gorgeous, maybe i wait till i got my notebook in the U.K ....

I run it fine on a 6600GT (with HDR on), best rpg ever. even if you take some of the eye candy off, its a brilliant game. get it you wont be dissapointed.

I am running it with my 6600GT , i think it's on medium [i never checked, i'm playing with whatever the game chose as suitable]. Medium or not, it still looks awesome, i don't think i've seen a game looking as good [on medium even].

I have a 2.8ghz P4 CPu with 1GB ram, game runs without any problems. Also have to consider Oblivion is not Doom3/Farcry which have huge explosions and 50 enemies shooting at you. It's a relatively "slow" game meaning you don't run into those types of activities causing your PC to go into a crawl.

Although there is alot of environmental stuff [wind effects, plants/trees moving with wind/weather...animals/people walking around , rain/night/dark etc] and even that doesn't seem to be a problem.

playing on my laptop, centrino 1.8Ghz, 1gig ram and ATI 9700 mobility 128MB

Yip, Oblivion is a resource whore.
You should be fine with medium @ 800*600.

check out the tweak guide for maximum fps

Will run fine and DEF worth every penny you spend, AWESOME game!

I played it for 30mins. I seriously cant see the appeal in the game. Maybe I should try harder.

Is this your first RPG game?

The one thing I want to know, is it as open ended as morrow wind, because that was the main thing that I did not like about the game, it was too open ended, you could walk for days and still not have anything to show for it.

On the issue of resources, a buddy of mine is currently playing it, and he is playing it on an fx5500 or the 5200 dont really know nvidia cards that well

Hehe,

It was running fine on my 6600GT @ 1024 * 768 and Anti Aliasing on ......
That was until i found the horsie ...... when riding the horsie the FPS must be below 10FPS per second.

SLIDESHOW!

Yes it is , however easier (bigger world than Morrowind) You now have compass and tooltip popups when you progress quest... and to help you to where next objective is...A lot easier in that sense
