Observers question Russian vote

I watched it too. It was VERY biased and inconsistent most of the way through and then suddenly became balanced towards the end.
.

говорить о том, что вы знаете

Yeah ure right about the kaak. the freeken forum thought i was swearing, hehe, so i changed it. fyi the response to that is horosho.

I spent 3 years learning Russian.. can read their alphabet (except when they write in their version of cursive)

Personally I love Russians, but Ill look you right in the eye and tell you Putin is bad news. If not for the Ruble then for democracy.
Potchemo?

We covered the cursive writing. In fact we did writing drills - like they do in Class I

Putin seems to be pretty open. He's also very clever and has lived in Germany for a time. He is well-suited to his role.
I even read a story that claimed he wasn't even getting wealthy as President. He certainly took the oligarchs to task.
It just depends on what he does from now. Chavez (Venezualan leader) is popular too, but he's making some wrong decisions. Hopefully the story will be different for Putin and his successor.

I still think that while your perspective on the Russian people is right, your perspective on Putin is blurred. Perhaps mine is.. but right now the balance of evidence I see and experience does not agree with your point of view.

I dont know what potchemo is...would love to know. Spasibo.

Почему. (try it now) ... were you sleaping for all those 3 years?;)

Транслитерация очень трудна.

ok got it (why) now thanks skeptik, im sure as you know, like any language, if you dont use it, you loose it. I wont lie, I know the common phrases, alphabet and silly things like counting. I used to know all the features of the face. but I cant think of what even one is called now.

This phrase should be familiar to you ;) Dorak devushka :D

Like English, use it or lose it. [/pedant]

@Skeptik, I'm really interested in your perspective on Putin. You mentioned Chavez, and there are many parallels with Mbeki too. All three leaders are engaged in ways of attempting to ensure they somehow remain in charge, though in the case of Putin and Mbeki they would be in the background pulling strings, rather than the figureheads (as I understand it). On the face of it, they're all after the same thing.

LOL
Surprisingly, I've found language knowledge doesn't fade as fast as other academic subjects, but I know what you mean. It also depends on how well it was drummed into you (Russian style) in the first place.

Again you are speculating about Putin "pulling strings". At least Chavez is putting it to the people as a referendum.

I don't think any ANC card carrying member can even whisper democracy and power. This country is a very poor example of democracy in action.

Sure, but there are a number of parallels between Putin and Mbeki, yet every time there is an article about the Russian elections you cry Bias! Bias! and I'm struggling to understand how you can draw a distinction between their actions.
